Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

I can't stand how easy the Republicans job is... We spend years and years and years and years of fighting to get policy on climate action.

They take days to erase it all.

Destruction is always fast and easy. Creating takes real effort

I think we may need to get rid of the obstructions. Getting real sick and tired waiting for "incremental change" when I've watched the goddamn dial move backwards my entire lifetime.

It's not so much "obstructions" as that it requires both earned expertise and hard work to create stuff.

I’m so fucking tired of journalists underestimating the fear that scientists felt when shithead got reelected. How could reality exceed my worst fears when i am expecting the literal fucking apocalypse?

Anger at journalists is misdirection. There have never been fewer journalists, they have never been worse paid, and the line is going in one direction only. A world without journalists will be a thousand times worse than it is already. It's a world "shithead" himself dreams of. The anger is misdirected.

i’m not actually angry at journalists. i was making fun of the click baity headline. i don’t know how many variations of “even the most pessimistic x didn’t expect trump to be THIS bad.” Yes, i did.

Fair enough.
