Is it possible to have negative sympathy?

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 29 points 3 weeks ago

Yes, its called Schadenfreude: pleasure derived from someone else's misfortune.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemm.ee 13 points 3 weeks ago

Yep. It’s called antipathy.

[–] slingstone@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Nobody is "transing" the kids. These people are beyond all reason.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 weeks ago

if telling kids their identity is valid means "transing them" then fucking write me up officer

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 69 points 3 weeks ago

Because they don’t give a shit about you Austin, get a fucking clue

[–] toomanypancakes@lemmy.world 39 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

He's really owning the libs now. Sure showed us. Boy howdy.

[–] kablammy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 weeks ago

I hope he owned the libs, because he doesn't own a shoe business any more.

The Japanese have a word for this: kamikaze

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 31 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Wow, it's almost like Donald isn't the class traitor here. Weird.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago

well he was always in the robber-baron-class…

[–] Helvetica@sh.itjust.works 29 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I like how in the second post he's whining about the big, bad government like it's some abstract evil without naming trump. These tariffs are 100% his baby.

Like even when Trump is pooping directly into his mouth he can't badmouth him.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemm.ee 6 points 3 weeks ago

Right. It’s not even clear that Trump has the authority, but republicans are too spineless to challenge him on tariffs.

BIG GUBMENT BAD!

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago

get owned, con

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Shoe business? Does he mean drop shipping business?

[–] user224 8 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah. I also imagined a shoemaker at first.

[–] kablammy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

I guess the other shoe just dropped.

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 19 points 3 weeks ago

You voted to self-own, just too blinded by mindless hate to face reality

[–] HEXN3T@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 3 weeks ago

"I'm going to vote to ravage my country out of spite for a group I don't understand"

[–] user224 15 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I am just too naive. Whenever I see something like this I just think how they got slapped back to reality and are now at least going to realize what they supported.
And then they double down.
And I don't even know if they still truly believe in their shit or just do everything in their power as to not admit to being wrong.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 weeks ago

Why would Joe Biden do this to her???!

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 3 weeks ago

Haha. FAFO, ass hat. I feel bad for small businesses, except when their leaders vote for tRump to ‘own the libs’ get wrecked.

I've no more fucks to give

My fucks have runneth dry.

I tried to go fuck shopping

but there's no more fucks to buy.

I've no more fucks to give

my fuck rations are depleted.

I rallied my fuck army

but it's been fucking defeated.

I don't even feel mad about it, just sad and confused. How can anyone be past adolescence and remain this stupid and petty? How have you managed to live this long with what's very obviously some major cognitive impairment? Could we even sit down and talk like people are supposed to or are you more beast than person? :/

Diabeetus epidemic goes through leopard population! More at 11.

[–] asg101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 3 weeks ago

B... B... B... But trump was supposed to only destroy the people I was told to HATE, not me!!!!

[–] phoenixarise@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago

I’m not owned enough. He needs to lose it all and then some.

It should have clicked for everyone with Amazin wanting to place a tariff on their receipts. But Jeff Bezos is a pussy ass and people don't pay attention.

[–] Iceman@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

It appears we where libs all along.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Voted himself out of business. Not even the world’s smallest violin could make as pathetic a song as this dude deserves.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The de minimis exception probably should go away, Trump or no. The only argument I can really see for keeping it would be that getting rid of it adds to transaction cost, but aside from that, it just doesn't make sense to impose tariffs on people importing in bulk but exclude people importing small quantities.

If

and I don't know if this is actually the case for this guy

your business model fundamentally depending on leveraging being exempt from paying tariffs when a number of competitors had to pay them...I mean, you were on pretty dangerously thin ice to begin with.

[–] underline960@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Just from your description, isn't the point of the de minimis exception to support small businesses and help them compete against larger companies that can bulk import?

[–] Zanathos@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's exactly the reason it exists, because you need to start somewhere and eliminating cost can help drive business growth.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Without De minimis you would need a customs structure say, a hundred times larger, or more, I dont have the figures, but it'd be ridiculous.

Also, it would make people buy from the big importers, who would have the capacity to process many shipping containers in one go, and these would have it easier to impose the prices they want, since consumers woulnd be able to source from overseas. De minimis makes a lot of sense.
