If you NEEDED both hands for that before, well, then you are truly blessed sir.

For Trump, he needs two hands to drink a glass of water

Nah just wanted to see if I could tickle my balls at the same time.

That's pretty fuckin cool. I'm an electrician, I could absolutely use an extra thumb sometimes. By the time this stuff hits the market I intend to afford one lol. Robot digits and limbs! No surgery or wifi required!

Also very interesting for musicians

Electrician here as well, I just seeing it getting caught on pull cans and metal boxes more frequently than my normal hands lol

Yeah but hey, that finger doesn't bleed!

Humanity: The planet is burning and there are several ongoing genocides. We need help!

"Scientists" under capitalism: Best I can do is a second thumb for rich people... How about an "AI" thumb?

This sounds to me like it's in line with the argument against space exploration where we shouldn't explore space when we've got problems here on Earth (unless I'm missing something).

Quite a few innovations happen tangentially to what the researchers were trying to do, I personally like the idea of ppl exploring new ideas regardless if they're helping our immediate problems.

i always wondered if people like william gilbert or otto guericke ever had to endure derision from people due to their experimentation w electricity well before its impact could be known.

some part of me wants to hear overconfident and dogmatic responses like: "electricity?!!! who tf would ever need such a useless thing?!"

I, for one, welcome our new ai controlled thumb overlords.

You want a handful of robotics nerds to overthrow capitalism for you?

[–] hmancuso@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

On a side note, I suppose people may find it particularly challenging when it comes to giving others "thumbs down". :(

[–] TheGuyTM3@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Yes people have not forgotten the second thumb!
