So what can you do with this, run custom-burned DVDs? I'm used to modern consoles with menus and USB ports that can run games of off drives. I don't even remember if the ps2 has a USB port.

It has USB 1.1, which is very slow. You can run software from a hard drive if you have a PS2 fat. It is also possible to run from a network share or a PS2 memory card to SD card adapter. Some methods are too slow to play FMV without skipping.

that's awesome!

i remember like 8 years ago now my college roommates and i had gotten a ps2 for cheap and we were trying to mod it with cogswap so we could play custom guitar hero songs. not sure if anyone here has ever tried it, but basically you stick something in the disc tray so that the disc will spin while the disc is still accessible, and at a certain point in the boot process you have to take the spinning disc out of the ps2 and replace it with a disc loaded with modded software REALLY fast.

we tried for hours but never got it working, so this is super cool! awesome that you don't have to perform a physical feat of dexterity to mod your ps2 now lol

How does this differ from something like FreeMcBoot?

I get that this is better than the old titles.db + specific PS1 disc method, but FreeMcBoot memory cards already made that approach obsolete years ago. Is it just that it supports more models than the older exploits?
