Daily theme: Rose is a single note scent.

Challenge: I did not time my lather, so probably no challenge points for me. But I promise I lathered so so fast.

$selfcare for me today was sleeping in and having a slow morning reading with a cup of coffee in the sun.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Very nice shave today. As far as I know, sandalwood is the only accord that is marketed with Barrister and Mann Sandalwood. In searching around, I found that it was first developed as an accord for Fougère Gothique, so I think I'm correct that this is a one note fragrance.

I did time my lather making and filled out the form. I also included that process in this video.

Oops, I totally forgot about that form. Oh well!

In the past, I would have thought the judges would give you the point anyway. After listening to the podcasts, these judges seem to be sticklers for the rules. I’d give you the point. A person could cheat on the form as easily as in a post. All of this is about having fun.

I won't miss the point! I'm hardly playing. I don't even think I'm eligible for a prize since I sort of helped with planning (although hardly).

This is my 4th year. I don’t care about, or pay attention to, points. I do it for the entertainment and to take part in the community.

K.I.S.S: Day 21 of Lather Games

  • Brush: Declaration Grooming Washington Blood of Kings B3
  • Razor: Atelier Durdan – Horizon $ARTISTCLUB $ADJUSTABLE $CNC
  • Blade: Feather Professional
  • Lather: Nordic Shaving Company – Coffee
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co – Orange Chill
  • Fragrance: Imaginary Authors – Saint Julep

Theme justification: Nordic Shaving Company's Coffee is just that: "This soap has a pleasant and rich, even a little bit sweet scent of fresh roasted coffee.", and it's a good start for a brunch beverage themed scentscape: coffee followed refreshing orange juice (also one scent note) and a mint Julep (unfortunately multiple scent notes, but who's counting)

Oh, I like this razor. Today I used it on level 8, where it has a good amount of blade feel, but it mostly it's smooth and efficient. I might find some rare safety razor thrill for this one.

I applaud those people who are designing razors for artist club blades. Assuming I like it when it gets to me, I’ll probably buy one just to support the effort that went into it. The AC razor has to have a pretty small market and one where there isn’t much repeat business. Even Gillette sold razors as a way to sell razor blades.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. I'll probably but this one, just to support the effort. Innovation is rare, and this is really, really functional innovation

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. black & clear handle w/ 30 mm Tuxedo Fan knot
  • Razor: RazoRock Hawk V2 w/ Cyber handle
  • Blade: KAI Captain Protouch MG
  • Lather: Moon Soaps - Union
  • Post-Shave: HAGS Barber aftershave toner

-> 2 pass shave on the head, 1 on the face. Enjoyable shave on the head, on the face it was just okay - a bit of irritation despite waiting longer than I should be for face shaving.

While the guarded KAIs were usually good for me, it seems like they loose the ideal level of sharpness faster than usual. The "Captain Pink" with a nice coating are really nice too while KAIs DE blades are absolutely awful for me. With Feather, the other japanese blade manufacturer, it's the other way around: their DE blades are fine, but their ACs suck for me. Funny.

Union is a smooth barbershop scent with a tiny amount of menthol - I'd say it's just the right amount of menthol to be pleasant. Especially on such a hot day, we're expecting temperatures of up to 37°C this weekend. IMHO menthol has its place in the summer as long as it isn't overdone. Moon Soaps also has a great tallow base that's so easy to get a thick, creamy lather with (as a head shaver, I generally prefer my lather a little bit thicker than most others here - YMMV).

I also realized in today's shave that I generally prefer the Tuxedo over the Silksmoke knot and while Fan knots are supreme for head shaving, Flattops aren't that necessary for even coverage. The more you know!
Have a nice weekend ✌🏻

  • Brush: Rubberset - 400 w/ Maggard SHD Badger $DOORKNOB
  • Razor: Equate - 2 Blade Disposable Cartridge $RAINBOW
  • Lather: Catie's Bubbles - Literal Lilac - Cream
  • Post Shave: Catie's Bubbles - Literal Lilac - Aftershave

Daily Theme: Today is keeping it simple. Lilac is the only note in my software today.

Daily Challenge: I really thought I was gonna do better than this today, but that is what I get for using a brush and base I am not very familiar with, a seemingly eternal two minutes and 46 seconds. I will say I got an incredible lather and was very pleased with the result. It made this cartridge feel decent, but I did get some redness and more pronounced splash feedback.

June 21st, 2025: Single Note

  • Brush: Maggard Razors - Tuxedo 24mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Union Razor Cutlery 5/8 Full Hollow (5)
  • Lather: Proraso - Sandalwood - Soap
  • Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Musk - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream
  • Fragrance: Jōvan - Musk - EdT

Theme justification: https://proraso-usa.com/products/shaving-soap-in-a-jar-moisturizing-nourishing-formula The only marketed scent note is Sandalwood.

Daily challenge: I lathered in 1m03.9s. I started with a dry brush and started the timer at the same time that I turned on the tap water. I was lucky to be using a soap which is likely designed with speed in mind. It doesn't need much water, and it's pretty much ready to go straight after you load your brush. I stopped the timer after I put the brush down on the counter before starting my first pass.

Great shave from this razor! It felt really good today. I think I stropped it 20 times on linen and 70+ times on leather after using it last time, and I think the extra stropping helps. Only time will tell.
