Wait wait to cut costs? What about all the corpo propaganda saying it was to help people make their lives easier?

[–] auraithx@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh it will. But not until after a unignorable amount of people starve.

This tech isn't going anywhere.

Make your peace.

The use of generative AI is controversial in the entertainment industry over concerns [it will] replace the work of humans.

As if part of this show was created by hyperintelligent dolphins. Nah: a human being used this new tool. Like how CGI let one guy render a collapsing building, without hiring dozens of scale-model craftsmen. The skill and time required keep dropping. But there's still a guy doing it.

If we ever reach a point your computer can extrude a complete episode, given only a synopsis - why the fuck would you pay for a streaming service?

Your computer won't extrude anything, their computer will. That's how they'll keep you paying.

Local models are only a year behind the gargantuan mainframe versions.

This whole thing is predicated on consumer hardware and aggressive publication of research. There's massive independent adoption because it also makes weird porn.

Either this remains a tool that modifies one shot at a time... or destroys the parts of this industry which require capital.

Local models will always be behind.
