This isn't technically a photo of the earth or anything on it. I know the photo looks like I took it with a yam. I took it with my five year old iphone. I got to spend Friday and Saturday somewhere remote. Spent most of both nights just laying in the bed of my truck looking up at the sky. You can see the Milky Way Galaxy by eye out there.

Spent a good part of the night feeling small. Hard not to when that is out there.

Lucky! On my bucket list is to be somewhere far away from light pollution to see the night sky. I had a chance when I lived in brasil with my girlfriend at the time, we spent a weekend at a farm but I didn't catch any stars though obama-sad

Next time bring some binoculars and try to spot the Andromeda galaxy. That'll make you feel REALLY small.

Awesome picture. I used to camp with friends beside an observatory. They usually are built in places with low light contamination. It really is something when you lie under the galaxy and realize what the true context is. I should do it more…
