The Goiânia accident [ɡoˈjɐ̃njə] was a radioactive contamination accident that occurred on September 13, 1987, in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, after an unsecured radiotherapy source was stolen from an abandoned hospital site in the city. It was subsequently handled by many people, resulting in four deaths. About 112,000 people were examined for radioactive contamination and 249 of them were found to have been contaminated.

This one's a lot shorter and more concise. There's a lot of banter in that podcast.

yeah WTYP is many things but it is never short or concise lmao (luckily the banter is my jam)

When I first learned of this I found it remarkable that experts figured out what the likely cause was at all. I guess infectious disease experts have to be trained to recognize patterns of illness caused by radioactive material? Because primarily they would be looking for biological stuff.

The banter is part of the experience. Getting a laugh while listening to some of the most horrifying shit in history is what we're here for

Yeah I like that other podcast but just can't personally handle the 2 hours of banter format lol. I respect what they're doing but it's just not my taste

Same fam. Same. 20 minutes in and they haven't started the main course. It's too much for me.

Thinking the capsule's contents were valuable or supernatural, he immediately brought it into his house. Over the next three days, he invited friends and family to view the strange glowing powder.

Oh my goodness…
