I didn't add the google tools to my LineageOS install, so I don't have the play store. Would kind of like Cash App, my bank app, etc, but don't want to download from a random site for obvious reasons. For instance, cash app is available here.

Is there a trustworthy source for these kinds of apks? Or does everyone just use websites/do without.

You could use aurora store

Personally, I use backed-up Playstore apps via old phones that I use for nothing else any more.

don't trust aurora store? or just a process you've worked out and would be a hassle to change now.

More that I've never used/am un-familiar with Aurora store. I hadn't put 2&2 together on it apparently mirroring more-or-less the entire Play Store. Honestly, I'm still using the Play store, but there are several apps where I stopped using newer versions(enshittification), and grab the last "good" version(usually, just new-enough to work on current Android) from backups whenever I update them on accident.

I also like having options that don't rely on having a working internet connection. A lot of those same apps I mentioned, the en-shittification is literal: newer versions shit the bed without internet. Homie don't play that.

Dunno MachineFab, but from my experience, few are the banking programs that on Android work without Google Play. And least on my case, I would rather avoid even MicroG. So maybe a similar situation with MachineFab?

Nah, I was just ignorant. Thanks for going to bat for me though.

From what they wrote it seems MachineFab is reinstalling them on their new phone - not a bad way to source the apps if Aurora is down

You're closer to the mark: I like at least staying familiar with/possessing options that don't require the internet. Pseudo-amish ideation at work.
