Turns out my friend has a little food processor they never use (hand me down from old relative) so I have scored a food processor at least for a while to test if the ease of bulk chopping beats the pain of storage in a tiny kitchen.

And then I got home and realised I have some gf apple turnovers in the freezer. Coffee snack sorted

Getting wasted while on leave hits different.

3 interviews this week.

Tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday.

Thereโ€™s definitely a feeling of down heartedness with the rejections but I generally make it to the final round for the ones Iโ€™ve proceeded with.

Due to circumstance itโ€™s imperative that I be employed full time, but I know itโ€™s only a matter of time.

Iโ€™ve done my interview prep for tomorrow so itโ€™s time for chill time.

It's definitely a situation I'm glad to be out of, I've always struggled when I've needed to get a job. The last time I think it was about three months out of work before I got something, and then I got two offers within the same week!

I've got my fingers crossed for you. The search sucks, but you will get there.

Today is the day I decide I am taking antihistamines for the rest of spring ๐Ÿ˜ข

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago

I decided that a couple of days ago. Today was the day I discovered what I thought was a full foil pack of tablets actually only has 2 left, making shopping for more a bit more urgent than I expected.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 5 months ago

Same. I have found my bumper pack of Telfast and have dropped.

Home is chaos but I chose to prioritise food and friends this weekend. This week I am aiming to eat fresh and lower fat/sugar. And to get up between 6/6:30 each day. I need to.slot into a rhythm

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago

You go girl!

I plan on eating no peanut puffs all week even though I have 10 bags left and I dream about them.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 5 months ago

it takes a while to make order from KAOS, I am halfway there and even halfway there feels great

you can do this :)

Had some nice sourdough toast for breakfast. It's been a while since I just had some good bread.

There's a nice sourdough bakery near us but I stopped making trips there after the kids were born, and they stopped making bread during the week while some roadworks were happening at the train station down the road.

Today I only did 4,594 steps, which is odd as I went grocery shopping and did laundry ๐Ÿค” It was a day where I mostly hung out with the kids cooking and eating though. It is the beginning of my irl birthday week, so given the volume of cakes and treats that will be consumed I don't hold out much hope of keeping the weight down ๐Ÿ˜† It is but one week of the year and I intend to enjoy it without guilt, so I will keep tracking my steps and weight and likely do little else. It'll be interesting: exactly what is the effect of a week of dietary abandon on my weight? And how long will it take to undo the "damage?" Will I succumb to guilt and exercise to counter the indulgence?

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Speaking from a degree of experience 1 week physically isnโ€™t a huge deal. Itโ€™s more about being able to come back to the discipline youโ€™ve already created.

Iโ€™ve done the whole โ€œIโ€™m doing double gym to make up for the food I shouldnโ€™t have eatenโ€ and Iโ€™ll be honest, itโ€™s not a great way to relate to food.

Enjoy your birthday week, have fun and when itโ€™s over just jump back in where you left off :)

Happy birthday week!!!!

I get really excited when it's Lamb Day.

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I've had a lovely time babysitting the niblings, and will now spend an afternoon happily cooking things

I threw away the yummy new zealand lollies I bought with my b'day money , sigh, I can do this

on a really good note I bought the young seagoons a complete kitchen's worth of new and near new italian stainless steel cook ware for pennies on the dollar, they are stoked

I also bought a box of hand made ceramic dining ware for them, a blender, a juicer and a giant good quality microwave

I know there's the saying with sugary stuff that it it's in your shopping basket, it's in your mouth, but surely throwing them out was a bit mean to yourself? Unless you didn't want them at all or had no restraint?

I see very ominous clouds, itโ€™s about to pour

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago

It's hammering down here.

Bucketing down here in Thornbury. And the wind has changed to the south. Obviously watering the garden this afternoon worked ...

The most exciting thing thatโ€™s happened in my suburb all week is that itโ€™s rained heavily.

The even worse part is that Iโ€™m excited

โ€œOh wow! Itโ€™s almost hailing! Iโ€™d better go and look out the window! Wowsers thatโ€™s intense! Off to the back door to have a better look!โ€

God I miss living closer to the city.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

peace and quiet is a good thing

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (2 children)

Not for me unfortunately. I love the chaos of the city.

Plus Iโ€™m a bachelor. The suburbs arenโ€™t the place for me.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago

oh I love the city too, I'm basically at the beach doing rehab, taking a break from a wild wild life ...lol

So after many many months I have finished my listen of all the Terry Pratchett Discworld books in order. Had read a couple before but not the series and the newish penguin audiobooks are great. Such good company as I potter around cooking and stuff. Such incredible storytelling and characters.

Now I am a bit lost. What should I listen to next? Any good long form podcasts or audio series out there? Non fiction is fine but not current affairs. I get enough news and try to limit the doom....I currently have an audible account but might ditch the subscription now this big listen is done....

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 5 months ago (4 children)

If you haven't read April Fool's Day by Bryce Courteney that's a really good read. It is a tribute to his son who died of AIDS. It's sad but it's very well written.

More horror film reviews. Please note that all these films below feature

TWgore to varying degrees, and mental health issues and suicide (especially Frรฉwaka).

V/H/S/Beyond (2024) -4/5 HobbitsI enjoyed this anthology film, all the segments as well as the framing wrap-around were very intriguing and engaging, except for one which didn't fit at all with the theme of this being about aliens.

Definitely worth a watch, especially for the segment called Stowaway, directed by Kate Flanagan and written by Mike Flanagan (actress and creator, respectively, of Haunting of Hill House, Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher, which is probably why it's my favourite segment lol)

V/H/S/Halloween (2025) - 1/5 HobbitsVery meh for me such that I did not finish it. Perhaps this anthology hits harder for audiences that celebrate Halloween, but it felt very tropey and made me feel quite bored.

V/H/S/94 (2021) - 5/5 HobbitsSo far my favourite of the V/H/S anthology film series. Perfectly gory and disturbing, the wrap-around framing was very interesting, and each segment had me on the edge of my seat. This one is definitely not for people who are squeamish, the gore effects are very well done!

Frรฉwaka (2024) - 5/5 HobbitsI thoroughly enjoyed this Irish folk horror. Exploring themes of paranoia, the Aos Sรญ, Magdalene Laundries, and familial ties. Blends the mythology of The Fair Folk expertly with the human emotions of grief and bargaining. No real jumpscares, I won't go on so as to not spoil too much, but I definitely highly recommend this.

Death Valley (2021) - 2/5 HobbitsAlso meh but I finished this one, so it gets one more star than V/H/S/Halloween. Blending resident evil, Nephilim, zombies, and sci-fi, I would have had a better experience if it just picked a lane and leaned into it instead of trying to everything and making a mediocre film. Watch if you want something on in the background and don't care about the stupid plot. I'm not sure how the film wanted me to feel about the antagonists - one moment it seemed I should me sympathetic, the next made them completely irredeemably evil, and then switches again and again. MEH

Belzebuth (2017) - 4.5/5 HobbitsThis is the opposite of Death Valley (2021) in that it does pick a lane (Catholicism and demons) and blends it well with a little bit of sci-fi. Great acting on Joaquรญn Cosรญos part, and was pleasantly surprised to see an actor (Tate Ellington) I saw in The Endless (2017) as one of the protags. Well worth a watch if you're into possession and demon horror. The ending felt like it would be right at home for Catholics who love religious horror (not sure what the overlap is for that haha).

Note: this one does feature mass child murder (not actually shown on screen but is the main plot points).
