I thought it was really cool at first, but now I'm feeling a bit mixed about it. Had it for about a year, people sometimes take pictures of it. Some people like it, some people don't. It's the only tattoo that I have. I like Daniel Johnston and all, but I wouldn't say I'm a super major fan, I just like some of his songs. What do y'all think? Any input is appreciated!

(I only worry about how it may affect future potential relationships and jobs. I'm thinking about just keeping it as my only tattoo just in case I really want to get it removed in the future.)

I would test myself with a coin: heads keep, tails remove. Flip a coin and see how you like the decision. You will be able to tell ;)

I got heads, I guess that means I have to keep it now haha

Now, I see another person on here said I should add more, any suggestions for what to add?

I was thinking maybe a UFO, Alice in Wonderland characters, Dr. Seuss, or the Lorax with some truffula trees :)

Now you know what decision you wanted to end up with! :D
For a companion tattoo I would suggest one of your favorite small cartoon character holding up a big wooden sign: "wish u an awsm day" in children's script: backwards spelled rs and whatnot. :) Bonus points for your own child - niece - nephew handwriting!
*Edit: on the other wrist

Give it a massive alien cock to distract.

Jeremiah the innocent frog!!

Love it. Particularly in the age we're living in with so many callous, uncaring "creatures" (people) making lives miserable, his greeting and simple query on one's state is heartening, IMO. If you don't have a strong desire to remove, why not keep him for a while more?

That's cute, keep it and add some friends for them later

[โ€“] radiouser@crazypeople.online 7 points 2 months ago

I like it. My vote is to keep it.

I'd say get more to draw attention away from it. It's innocuous in a group, but by itself it's a weird piece

Do you like it?

How would you feel about it If you are the last person on eartth?

Not saying I'd get the same tattoo, but I fucking love this guy. Keep 100% he's chill

I mean I might have a laughing pikachu tattooed, from my side you are good

[โ€“] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I've heard that some tattoos can't easily be removed because of where they are, and yours seems to be a fairly important spot in the body. Can you even get it removed if you decide to?

there was a mural of this nearby where i lived in austin, but i could never find out who did it because my google searches just showed seemingly random results when i searched for "hi, how are you"

adding in "daniel johnston" into the search terms has finally made me aware of it's background and the wikipedia article about it is bizarre considering that i first became of aware of it when i witnessed the austin police beat up and harass homeless and clearly mentally unwell people nearby an advertisement version saying "thai how are you" and the wiki article says this:

In 2018, the Mayor of Austin, Texas, declared January 22 (Johnston's birthday) to be "Hi, How Are You Day", a day dedicated to mental health awareness funded by the non-profit organisation of the same name.

now knowing that it gained widespread popularity due to kurt cobain makes it feel like a formerly niche cultural reference has been co-opted by the mainstream and now its original intention is so far gone that it has become an advertisement vehicle where basic civil rights can be seen abused by an authority that pretended to embraced it less than a decade ago.

I wait 2 years before I make a tatoo, if I still like the idea, I go for it. It's a thing will be in my skin forever, what is 2 years of waiting?
