Putting a bit of knurling on a the handle and a few cut outs is now modern?

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I was thinking the clip was the update.

And removing the toothpick and tweezers

[–] merde@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

none of the alox models had them. Though as a gardener I wish they did

No toothpick and tweezers. They made it worse

[–] cetan@piefed.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The Victorinox tweezers are... very low quality compared to other offerings. I've been using an ALOX Farmer X for a couple years now and I never miss the toothpick or the tweezers. YMMV of course.

Better than nothing. You're not doing high level precision stuff with the tweezers, you're picking up small stuff or picking your nose hairs

My second carry is the Civivi Sendy with a far surperior toothpick and tweezers. Not only better than nothing but better than most!

By putting holes in to save on material? Checks out I guess.

[–] Shadowcrawler@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 months ago

Thy also massively increased the price for those new ones.

save on aluminium?

i won't be buying this, i don't like that liner lock. i wonder if those holes may help with pocket lint or humidity

Thank you for your help finding a gift for my dad.

Victorinox knives are stupid cheap on eBay. I've bought 50-packs by searching "TSA swiss army knives".

Maybe not your jam, but I like fixing them up, keeping what I want, gifting and selling the rest.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah butI I love and owe that man more than”here’s some crap I got thrown away from the TSA”

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Nah! I love fixing them up! It's stupid easy, for me anyway. I've made seriously nice knives out of TSA crap.

The vast majority of what you get is good to go. Few strokes on the stone, little polish on the wheel, brand new. Ordered toothpicks and tweezers off eBay to straiten out the surplus. PLUS, he gets a gift you worked on! And you never know what you'll get! I've got some very cool knives from a batch of 50.

where's the bluetooth with a hardcoded password for whistleblowers to leak on social media to let the app use it

where's the SaaS subscription to open it

... the AI features? does it include a blockchain storage?

WHERE'S THE BATTERY I CAN'T REPLACE, JESSIE?! WE'RE NOT COOKING

dump & pump a victoryNFT when??

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's sexy and sleek, but it looks like a flea market knife. If I didn't see the branding I wouldn't give it another glance.

[–] beeng@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 months ago

If it ain't broke..

[–] MoonRaven@feddit.nl 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I have a Victorinox multitool. Love the thing.

Also read great experiences about the lifetime warranty.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I got the Spirit X with clip recently. It’s awesome. Despite being heavier, it’s replaced my Skeletool as my EDC. The clip and the one hand main blade make it super practical, and the build quality is really nice.

I am surprised these Alox knives didn’t also make the blade one-hand open. Seems like the minimum if you’re saying it’s a properly modern design, and Victorinox already has a couple of different implementations.

I still love the classic design elements, but a traditional SAK is kinda like an Opinel, a business suit of a knife. Still does what it needs, but communicating “classy and traditional” is very much part of the idea.

one hand open may change their legal status in some european countries

[–] vext01 1 points 1 month ago

Im glad that they are trying stuff, but I can't carry this. Locking blades are illegal in the UK.

Also no scale tools (tweezers, toothpick etc) and as others have said, the design language is a bit cheap.
