Not heen there myself, but from what I hear from family in the area: expensive, packed and puckey. Most locals visit early in the day, before the drunk party people invade.

Try to stay away from Hofbräu, Löwen and Sparten beer, they are garbage, go for Augustiner instead.

Also: hotels in Munich become ridiculously expensive during Oktoberfest.

Also haven't been there. As a German coming from outside Bavaria, it is absolutely uninteresting. From what I heard it is mainly tourists, alcohol abuse and sexual harassment.

As a German I never visited and probably never will. I consider it a tourist trap.

It's simple really: if you enjoy getting really drunk on beer you can have a great if expensive time. Singing, dancing and drinking with strangers from all around the world in huge and packed tents until you pass out. If you don't enjoy being drunk, pass.
