I went to SE Asia instead. I should have gone to Peru. THAT is what I want. Just look at it!

It was spectacular. The pictures don't do it justice.

I can only imagine. Breathtaking. Literally, at that altitude. :)

The altitude is a real bitch when you get to the top of Dead Women’s pass. That part of the hike is nothing but stairs for like 2k feet up to 14k’ altitude. Phew!

Look not to pry, or to have you reveal potentially criminal liability online or anything, but has a friend of yours ever tried chewing coca leaves while hiking, and if so, what kind of difference does that make on the trek?

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

My friends did. I did not. They claimed it helped with altitude related symptoms (dizziness, light-headed) but it is by no means going to magically turn you into a stronger hiker at that altitude.

Also, there is no criminal liability with this, so no harm in asking and thanks for the question! It’s totally legal to have and consume the coca leaves there. It does not get you high like refined cocaine does.

My friend might prefer that.

It's just a long way from Cambodia to Peru.

But a man can dream.

I'm out of breath just looking at this pic.
