His statements drew an angry response from Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the figurehead of the radical Left-wing France Unbowed, who has historically been pro-Russian and lukewarm on Ukraine. He expressed his “total disagreement” with “anticipating sacrifices that would be the consequence of our diplomatic failures, on which his public opinion was not sought”.

How left is this person? This sounds like what anyone reasonable would say.

He's no revolutionary but he's one of the "good socdems", i.e. less Bernie Sanders, more Jeremy Corbyn.

I bet this guy is great at parties. No really this guy should talk more about the horrors of war and how the rich are not going to have to send their kids. Tell them all how because he is a general he will be able to stop his kids from getting blown up by a drone while fighting for a ditch in Ukraine. That'll help recruitment numbers.
