Patient Gamers

18569 readers

A gaming community free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it's price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don't meet the system requirements, or just haven't had the time to keep up with the latest releases.

I’ve been a member of a discord community for over 6 years now. On any given night you’ll find people playing anything from Battlefield 6, Arc Raiders, Overwatch 2, etc. It’s a very active community with weekly events and we even have a sim racing group finishing up another season in iRacing. If it sounds interesting, they have a website for applications Over 30 Clan

Apologies if this is considered soliciting. I don’t get many opportunities to mention it and it’s honestly a great community. It took me a long time to find one of this quality.

For me, the problem is not that you're soliciting, it's that you're redirecting people towards a closed platform (Discord). If your forum were fediverse enabled, like bbnode or piefed, it would be so much easier for people to interact with you.

I hear ya. It’s all I use discord for. The community has been around since 2010 so it got built all around discord.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Have you considered making an alternative social sport on the threadiverse. For more asynchronous discussions and as a backup location in case you have any discord issues?

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago

I’m just a member but I’m sure the moderators would be open to hearing about the idea.

Battlefield 6

So not that patient, actually

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

We’ve been patiently waiting for BF2042 to not be the newest BF title. It was a tough slog to push through

[–] moopet@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Read that title and thought, "that's not a very big community"

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago

We’re hoping to make it to 40 soon!

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 4 points 3 months ago

There's only a lower bound, no upper bound!

[–] 6nk06@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

A nonprofit with a vetting process and weekly meetings is way too complex and/or serious for me. But good luck anyway.

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

You don’t need to take part in any of it. There’s no expectations or attendance requirements

[–] murmelade@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Americans I assume from the lack of mentioning location?

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Primarily yes, but there are some folks from all around the globe.

[–] murmelade@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Cool. Doesn't work for me time-zone-wize but I like the concept. Wish you guys many enjoyable gaming hours!

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Thanks! There’s tons of channels with discussions happening even when no one’s on voice chat. I often just appear on those when my work schedule doesn’t allow much gaming. I know we have some members in the UK and elsewhere. Take care

[–] jmd_akbar@aussie.zone 2 points 3 months ago

Primarily, yes.

However, we have folks from all over the globe. For example, there are folks from AU, SG, EU, UK, SA, to name a few other Non-US members' regions.

That's neat! I don't think many of the games I play (and poorly at that) would count, like Slay the Spire etc.

But, maybe in the Christmas downtime i'll apply and see what it's all about! Thanks for sharing!

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

It counts for me! What do you think of Monster Train?

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Not who you asked, but I just binged that game hard so I'm gonna answer anyway. Monster Train is a frustrating game. In some ways I like it more than Spire, but it feels shallow, like it needs something to make it more substantive. That said, I'm definitely worse at it than I am at Spire, which may be coloring my impression

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I have the opposite opinion. It completely dethroned StS for me. Way cooler wombo-wombo potential and the mix&match of clans and leaders gives tons more replayability.

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I agree there's more meaningful permutations for replay in Monster Train, and that is indeed excellent. I just feel like there's more randomness vs skill/strategy at play in Monster Train than Slay the Spire. Or again, maybe I'm just not as good at Monster Train? Either way, both games are very good and I'd highly recommend either to almost anyone.

Although I do wish both games gave us just a little bit more narrative/lore into which to couch their excellent gameplay.

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well MT2 did go into a bit more narration, on top of doubling the clans & leaders :)

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I haven't picked up MT2 yet, but it's on my wishlist for when I finish some of my current games :)

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 months ago

It basically makes MT1 obsolete by including all the old clans, and improving on basically everything.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I like it as a more relaxing version of Slay the Spire. I'm not great at either though, so take what I say with more than a few grains of salt. I feel like I can see the combos Monster Train wants more easily than in Slay the Spire, where I sometimes feel like I'm tricking the system OR the Spire is trying to trick me by offering something remoting that doesn't quite work with my deck.

How about you? Which do you prefer, or do you have a preference?

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

I totally prefer Mt

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

It’s worth checking out. I’m fortunate to have some months off work and it’s great to have an older community to game with. Maybe I’ll see you there!

[–] _spiffy@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This sounds great. I've been looking for a group of people to just chill and play games with. My normal group and I don't really line up well with our hangout times.

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago

Hope to see you there!

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The absolute moment i get a proper, regimented bed time for all the kids sorted I'm signing up.

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Look forward to seeing you there. Lots of parents in the community as well. There’s even a channel dedicated to parents

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I know that a Discord to Matrix Bridge is possible. Would you ever consider setting that up?

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Unfortunately I’m just a member but it could definitely be suggested

[–] Adalast@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Any chance for people playing things like Factorio? Maybe Rift Breaker?

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

There’s tons of channels dedicated to various types of games, platforms and topics for discussions. Currently I haven’t seen anyone focusing on either of those in channel or voice chat, but it tends to be a constantly evolving range of games the group tends to focus on. There’s no shortage of people focusing on single player games and discussing them in channel and even on voice chat.

[–] Zeddex@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Seems interesting but not for me I think. The focus looks to be almost entirely competitive multiplayer games which I don't really have the time, patience, or interest for right now.

90% of my gaming is on handhelds these days(Deck/Switch 2). It's pretty rare that I'm on my PC and don't own any other consoles.

I've been looking for some communities on Lemmy/Discord that have more of a single player, especially RPG focus. I looked at the Falcom community but it's dead lol. Too bad I've been really into Trails recently!

I thought about joining the Falcom Discord but from what I've read it's just...bad. Doesn't seem like a welcoming place.

Started with Sky FC in 2023 and I'm on CS III now. I love this series!

I think you'll get a lot of hate for it being Discord exclusive, but the vast majority of people have probably never even heard of Matrix. I bet a lot of people on Lemmy haven't even.

Good luck growing the community!

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

There’s a ton of people that focus on single player, RPGs included. The community has channels dedicated to all types on Genres and games. I’d give it a shot, there’s no pressure and you might find some nice people on there. Take care

[–] Zeddex@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Hm ok. Maybe I'll give it a look later when I get the chance!

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

I think you’ll like it. My activity over the last 5 years has mainly been conversations in channel. I’m only just recently jumping on voice chat for some co-op stuff. Have a good one!

[–] techwithjake@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for posting. Applied. Might not be able to get on often but the ability to join up with a crew would be nice.

[–] Anissem@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

I’m in the same boat. When I’m working I don’t have much time, but the community doesn’t put pressure on anyone. Hope to see you there
