I thought this community might enjoy seeing the layers i found while digging a pond in my yard. Depth is about 2 feet.

That's only 2 feet? I need a banana for scale. I guesstimated almost a meter.

The darkest layer on top is only about 1.5-2 inches. We have very little topsoil before we hit clay.

You have 3 layers there:
An Ah - the black topsoil
An Ae horizon indicating eluvial processes
And a Big horizon - you've got redoximorphic features called mottles.

Textures looks pretty heavy; I would guess clay or silty clay

Just a small wildlife pond with a sitting area for us humans. Frogs always move into our kiddie pools when we put them out in the summer so we felt they needed a dedicated habitat.
