This is me and Lemmy right now lol.

[-] RIPandTERROR@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 years ago

S/O also is autistic as I am & has limited me to 5 minutes a day on this conversation 😅

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

My partner is ND and we need to get better at auto regulating each other.

Hehe me too!! (First post on Lemmy too…no more lurking since I’ve found “my people”!)

My obsession at the moment is with internet privacy and reducing data available to insidious ad companies….

But my usual staples are always Star Wars (I love it all - don’t get into the arguments/opinions about it either as I just love it all) Cycling (MTB and gravel cycling as well as bike packing) and Aviation/Aerospace (it’s my job too) ☺️

internet privacy and reducing data

Then I think you're ready to make the full jump to FOSS. I was into Linux when I was a little pre-teen, and I've only gotten more into it as big data hungry mega corporate induced culture preyed upon us.

I still use Twitch and Discord but I finally deleted my data on Instagram, Twitter, Reddit and rn I'm working on doing the same for Microsoft and Google. Goodbye Android.

[-] daan@lemmy.vanoverloop.xyz 3 points 2 years ago

Out of curiosity, what kind of phone are you using at the moment, if not an Android phone?

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Was not clear enough, I ditched Googled Android for technically AOSP. LG V40, currently on LineageOS, jumping ship to Evolution X probs this week.

Although I've been paying close attention to PostmarketOS and as soon as a better-esh phone than mine gets dialy driver support by the community I'm finally making the full switch to Linux.

[-] daan@lemmy.vanoverloop.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

I'm currently using GrapheneOS on a Google Pixel 6a (a legitimate way to degoogle, ironic as it may sound). I used to run LineageOS on my previous phone.

I have tried porting pmOS to one of my old phones for fun, but never succeeded unfortunately. Maybe it will be a feasible option in the future?

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Google Pixel 6a

I almost got one second hand but the Qi charge was a deal breaker.

Maybe it will be a feasible option in the future?

Even if it isn't, Phosh itself is still going strong to the point that I can see it 99.9% merged into GNOME master.

Pixel 7 Pro for personal use and an iPhone 14 Pro for work. I would like some of the polish of iOS in Android and some of the ease of use and less restrictions on iOS but both have their pros and cons.

[-] 20dogs@feddit.uk 3 points 2 years ago

Android is FOSS, you don't need to leave Android.

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I should have been more specific. I know AOSP is a thing. It's not what I want.

[-] peanutyam@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Absolutely however I do not own a person computer currently as I have to use one for work - when I did own one until recently I usually ran Manjaro on it. I started tinkering with Linux back in the days of early Ubuntu as an alternative to Windows XP :)

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I worked IT for a while, making sure I could run Linux on my work computer was a priority in every job.

[-] peanutyam@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Unfortunately I don’t work in IT - Aerospace Engineer and don’t get a say in IT and operating systems generally!

[-] Catpocalypse@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 years ago

Currently in the process of trying to befriend a chipmunk. Today friend chipmunk was comfortable enough to eat with me outside.

It was the best.

[-] AmbientChaos@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago

This is soooo relatable... My most recent obsessions were tornados and caving. Spent so much time learning all the lingo, I even located a local caving club I swore I was going to join. And then poof, my interest shifted to something else! Haha

[-] buttermilkDelight@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

Me with tarantulas.. now I have 14 tarantulas.

[-] Mutelogic@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

You can't mention this and not pay the tarantula tax!

[-] jobutupaki@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

I feel this deep in my soul. As an AuDHD'er, I have my main obsession which I can always return to (BBC Sherlock) and a continuous rotation of new, short term hyper-fixations. At the moment this has included: gem faceting (I'm a sucker for geometry and working with my hands), home brewing (never gonna do it, but love to learn about it) and ultra-marathons (in a sense of watching Youtube videos about people that run them, there is no way in hell I am capable of such feats).

[-] 3laws@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Home alcohol brewing? Cuz I do home coffee brewing and it scratches the etch just enough so that I don't go out in a frenzy and intoxicate my self with adulterated alcohol 🥴

[-] jobutupaki@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I was referring to alcohol, but coffee is by far the better choice ;) I got really into cold brew coffee a few years ago, it's really delicious and way better than iced coffee in my opinion. The only downside is you need to plan ahead if want it, and I'm terrible at remembering stuff like that.

[-] neo@lemmy.comfysnug.space 8 points 2 years ago

My first real hint that I was different from the people around me was, in fact, my first obsession: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

[-] JamesStallion@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

FUGAAAHHH FOILED AGAIN!

[-] anthoniix@beehaw.org 8 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Me rn with bikes. I just got into bikes and a couple days later I'm scouring through my county's website for trail maps, looking at what public transit is being funded, doing research on bikes, planning locations to bike to, and buying equipment.

[-] peanutyam@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Mad keen cyclist here too - MTB and Gravel cycling for me!

Frogs rule tho

[-] kerneltux@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I can't relate to this at all...

[Tries to hide the look on his face that this is a flat-out lie]

Seriously, though, my partner handles my obsessions in the best way. She lets me go off & ramble about them, and when I've reached a kind of pause, she cuts in with:

"Ryan, your autism is showing," in an endearing tone of voice that's short for "I love that you do this, I want you to keep doing it, but I have no idea what you're talking about." lol

[-] CoffeeTails@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

I'm currently obsessed with obsidian.md

[-] RIPandTERROR@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago

Aight, I'll bite. Tell me some about it. I've already downloaded... What's got you hooked?

[-] CoffeeTails@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I used notion before, as context and I like how it's just regular markdown, nothing fancy. It puts the focus on the text and not what it looks like.

I also like that it's free and that I have the files on my computer, (and on github in my case)

[-] Norspang@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Huh, this is interesting... I usually use obsidian, but have recently moved to Notion for Dungeons and Dragons campaign development.

I really enjoy notions database centric system for DnD. I like that fact that i don't have to remember to push my changes to GitHub, as i often move PC.

My only problem with Notion is the lack of extensions/themes.... Almost everything i use is in the Catppuchin mocha theme (even my windows).... But for the love of God, i can't get it to work on notion

But hey, knowing my ADHD-ass brain, I'll be using a new note system soon

Imagine notes, ok, now imagine notes that are super ez to link to each other, so you can have your own wikipedia of your life or any topic, and you can also make the notes small, and suddenly you can navigate any topic that you think about and build on ideas super fast and become an information dragon with an enviable hoard of growing knowledge and self-reflection

Brought to you by the Zettelkasten gang

that and graphs and an enormous plugin marketplace for anything you could imagine

and everything is plaintext! you truly own your stuff

[-] malcyon@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Me, too!

Someone asked me last week to explain why I loved it, and I couldn't explain why. It's fast, is all I can think of.

[-] CoffeeTails@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

For me it's that it has it's focus on the text and it's simple markdown, it's free and the files are stored on my computer (and github in my case).

I came from Notion where I put way to much time into what it looks like instead of focusing on the text.

[-] adriaan@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago

Coincidentally a friend of mine did this with frogs just the other day and I got sent a dozen frog facts and images

[-] SuddenDownpour@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

This was me with ants for 3 weeks immediately right after finding the AntsCanada channel. Then I forgot about ants forever. Probably for the best, I might have not been their most responsible god.

[-] KillaBeez@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

This is my life as someone with ADHD

[-] VoidCrow@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Me with horror and (shamefully) true crime/disturbing stories and ghost hunting and basically everything spooky
