If something like this can pop up in weeks and provide all of the functionality people need, what makes Reddit valuable in the first place?

Maybe all of those in favor of the protests kept their word and only those who are against it remain?

People are ADDICTED to Reddit. So much so that they are using Reddit as their primary resource to talk about how much they hate it.

Once the craziness around the API stuff dies down and it's time to stop using Reddit for good, I'm willing to bet nearly all of these people cave in some way.

Seriously.

Going back to Reddit to read about the blackouts was jarring after spending the past few days on here. I didn't realize just how negative, toxic, and mentally draining Reddit was until I stopped using it.

I’m honestly done with Reddit and I really hope enough people find a new home outside of it when this is all said and done. Hanging out on here has made me realize how toxic and mentally draining Reddit actually is.

I think Reddit will continue to grow into a normie cesspool of children and mentality I’ll folks and will eventually go the way of FB and Twitter where the interesting and saine folks will dig out new communities in some other place to be determined

While I’m enjoying my time here and I’m honestly shocked with the amount of engagement so far, I just don’t see the “fedaverse” ever gaining any mainstream traction. It’s unintuitive and the barrier of entry is way too high. Even googling “Lemmy” doesn’t bring up useful results.

Something like squabbles has a better chance for mainstream appeal, but it would need a miracle as it’s only one duder

That being said, I’ll still be here!

It’s really sad, but it’s also super exciting to be a part of something new! All of this reminds me of the old school internet with competitors and communities popping up here and there.

I didn’t realize how toxic and hostile Reddit actually was until I stopped using it and started interacting with the folks on here. I just hope it sticks around

I really hope this doesn’t lead to people forming their own echo chambers and instances become tribes who hate on each other

I think you’re right. It seems like there’s a pattern for every new platform.

Early adopters make the the site fun, valuable, and worth while

People start to notice and the platform grows, becoming slightly worse, but still pretty cool.

Platform explodes in popularity and it goes to complete shit.

It’s happened with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit. I’m sure that day will come for this place as well. I guess we’ll just need to enjoy it while it lasts.

Anyone else notice how friendly, calm, and civil the posts and discussions have been away from Reddit? This place reminds me a lot of the early days.

Nothing agains this place, but it is VERY cumbersome to get going. Squabbles seems super responsive and intuitive. I’ll be using both!

Welcome Redditors! (lemmy.world)

Welcome Reddit refugees! r/SBCGaming is one of my favorite subreddits, and I wanted to create a place for those who would like to leave the mothership for an alternative.

If you are here, please participate! I would love to see this place be as active as the subreddit some day.

Hello! One of my favorite Reddit communities was r/SteamDeck, and I wanted to create a haven for any of those leaving Reddit looking for a new Steam Deck community. Welcome!

Obviously, this is all very new so please don't just lurk, participate! Create posts, discuss, etc...

Very normal for me!

Yes! It sorta reminds me of the early days of Reddit ironically. It has a nostalgic charm to it.
