The gas-powered ones have been outlawed in our area for a few years.

Somehow, folks have survived this utter, life-destroying catastrophe just fine, with electric blowers and a few swappable batteries.

Don't ban the device, that's hard and can be loopholed. The thing that irritates people is how loud thet are, and how long they're used. Is this not really a noise ordinance thing? And everywhere has noise ordinances. Can a city's management and/or elected political reps not focus on an awareness campaign for people to call in noise complaints related to dummy loud has blowers and have the DA on board with the fines? If landscaping companies keep getting fines for annoying gas leaf blowers, they're going to WANT to use quieter electric ones.

They also produce a ridiculous amount of pollution because there's no "catalytic converter". They just spew NOx, SOx, and VOCs like there's no tomorrow.

I got an electric years ago and it's great. Sometimes I run out of juice and need to recharge the battery, but I got a big lawn

I hate this take tho:

Another solution: Customers could loosen their expectations and accept a scattering of leaves, instead of demanding a perfectly manicured lawn

Some people absolutely can not just let leaves hang around. North America didn't have earthworms and none of our ecosystem is adapted to them. Mature native trees in large parts of the country are going to smother the lawn every year to outcompete any other plants.

You don't need to keep a lawn completely leaf free, but if you can get away with doing nothing it's because you're in a new build subdivision.
