But you'd think that listening to the Pope would also be an important factor here, given that he's supposedly speaking the words of god.
It feels like such an American thing that when the person you believe to be the guy with the direct line to God tells you to not act like fascist dickheads, you say "nuh-uh, you need to believe what we believe immediately".
I mean to be fair, the USA were founded by people who didn't want to listen to the guy in Rome or those with crowns on their head telling them what to do and to believe. And then went over a whole ocean and genocided the people already living there, just because they didn't agree with the lectures on the bible.
