It's time for the cat hoodie to come into circulation.

I still struggle with missing out on that cattery position.

Despite knowing it will just take time and perseverance, I can't help but feel like I missed out on my only opportunity. That something is going to happen this year that will make my dreams impossible instead of merely difficult.

I'm absolutely terrified of getting stuck in call centres again, I actually get a lump in my throat.

I suppose I should end this post with hope, so, uh... I'm sure it will work out in the end? 😅💀

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 8 points 2 months ago

It feels like a big deal to miss out but something else will come along. If another job comes up at the cattery you should put in for it, no matter what it is. That will show them how keen you are to work there

[–] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

You very definitely didn’t miss out on the only opportunity, although I know it can feel like that at the time. When I’m having those type of thoughts I remind myself that I didn’t know about the thing until I knew about it, so therefore I don’t know what great things may come along in the future, that I don’t know about yet (if that makes sense?).

I also did the call centre thing in the past for way too many years, so I get where you’re coming from with that. Was a necessary means to an end at the time (needed $). I did further study and now have a much better job in a different field. Just keep chipping away and I’m sure you’ll get there, too. You got this!!

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's easy to tell yourself the "logic" of the situation, but to actually believe it is another thing.

I can't guarantee it's going to work out for you, but seeing some semblance of your character on here indicates that you've got a good chance!

Have you looked at Kookaburra Vets? I just randomly googled and it seems like quite a few entry level vet nurses are posting ads on there for work. You're not alone in the hunt for a job!

It is a shame, there are catteries that really could use someone like you. Get that bag and keep your head up 🐾

Boyo doing my head in. If you want resume advice, listen! Yes, I don't know your industry. I do know inconsistent formatting and incoherent phrasing. Do not claim attention to detail when you have misspelt the word references.

This is where having someone read your work can be very very helpful.

And I think asking for and accepting help is something most people undervalue, we have this idea fed to us at school that we must do it all alone and off the cuff.

But that's not how successful people succeed irl.

( really, he's very lucky to have you, many other people would be so grateful for any help at all )

The order:

Regret -> clean bird bath -> notice no birds use it except for a pigeon-> regret -> clean gutters -> realise there's no rain coming -> scratch head and have an existential crisis -> bribe resident magpie which is basically the mafia at this point.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

On the plus side the work is already done when you get sudden rain the next time. And the magpie has a private pool when it boots the pigeon

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

I've had a bit of birdbath tribulation as well. When I put it out the back for the first time it wasn't long before the damn myna birds took it over and started bossing away all the birds I wanted to attract 🙁So I put it around the side of the house and now I never see birds there because it's too close to our door. The bees get a drink though.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Well that was an depressing look at the news this morning. Tv off and plan for the day is shower then some housework. Local magpie pair turned up so they got a bit of left over roast pork for their breakfast. They then sang a lovely song.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 10 points 2 months ago

Less news; more magpies might be my 2026 motto...

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

I haven't watched or read the news since dickhead took office last Jan.

Could say head in the sand, but I don't feel stressed 24/7 anymore.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 9 points 2 months ago

Birdbath clean and full ✔️

Birds ❌

Which calls for a rave choon

Tear drops falling ~~on the dancefloor~~ in the birdbath 🎵 🎵

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 9 points 2 months ago

Order: up and actually feeling good -> wash hair -> coffee -> go see fam before they leave -> ohh shortbread -> log shortbread in new calorie app -> regret -> food shopping -> ooh prawns -> salad and prawns for lunch for last day of hols-> cricket and food prep -> don't think about work tomorrow.....

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 9 points 2 months ago (5 children)

The presentation might not be the best, but pancakes with apricots & yoghurt for lunch is pretty darn goodPlate of pancakes with apricots and yoghurt

Geopolitics aside...

Local fish and chip place has upped their potato cake to $2.50 from $2. Criminal.

We should swoop in early morning, kidnap the shop owner, and replace them with someone more reasonable - or just run the shop ourselves

Cookware and bakeware audit completed. Massive quantities of items that I almost certainly won't use again. Vinnies will do well out of this I think. Will be taking a cartload up there tomorrow. How did I end up with 3 (3!) very large mixing bowls? I'm keeping the best one and a medium size one and ditching the rest. Also 5 small/medium frying pans - I only use one at most. The large frying pan still gets a workout, but the small ones???? Still, the cupboards are now clean and tidy.

Interestingly, the stockpot has vanished into the aether - will have to replace that at some stage.

Last day of break, rushing around to tick off a few final holiday tasks around the house. Every year I always do less than I expect to, but I need relax time as well.

Also feeling very anxious about the new work year. It’s been building the past few days. Probably shouldn’t have looked at my inbox. I would like a chill January.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Still no birds in the birdbath.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

Nor mice in my multiple mice traps

I bought one of those fly salt guns for myself as a Christmas present. I was able to save about $30 by getting off aliexpress and could get it in a cool red and blue spiderman colour scheme.

So far the confirmed kill count is 4

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

Order: sleep late > ooh, apricots! > coffee > should get out and plant some seedlings before it gets too hot > ooh, apricots! > more coffee > what's the weather like now for planting those seedlings? > walk the dog > ooh, apricots! should make jam. and still need to plant those seedlings, wonder if I can find that sprinkler in the garage? > more cofee > ooh, apricots! I haven't had breakfast, oops too late now. Should really have lunch. Can I make something with apricots? Maybe I should plant those seedlings first? Or should I start on the jam so that's out of the way? Maybe they should all be later once it cools down. Oh, I need to do labels for those jars of apricots too, and I haven't put the doona in the wash yet...

Disorder. I'll do stuff when I feel like it. Planning = Chaos

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Ok, it looks like a heatwave is coming this week from Tuesday to Friday?

Different sources especially put Wednesday at 38-40C and Friday at 35C. Is that what you guys are seeing? BOM site doesn’t seem to work properly on my phone to check reliably but be warned I guess.

[–] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Gross 😭 BOM has 29 Tuesday, 39 wednesday, 35 Thursday, and 31 Friday

I just went to get a small pack of Zooper Doopers. Forgot something though. Disposable container.

Again the problem of providing wildlife water with an invasive population of dickheads

I should have bought some aluminium roasting pans because the one wildlife water dispenser that hasn’t been stolen or yeeted probably won’t meet demand.

I planned to freeze big chunks of ice to weigh down the light disposable container/s (it would have to be something I didn’t value), keep them cool, and slowly replenish water as it got drunk down. As well as something to help any smaller animals get back out so they don’t drown.

But it would either have to be placed behind a fence limiting which animals could access it, or be left out where braindead dickheads can pour the water out or take the whole thing. I have the perfect spot for a birdbath but it would only be stolen or used to smash stuff…

I fucking hate people man

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago

Zdravo everyone

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Melbcat is uncomfortable today so I gave the afternoon meds a tiny bit early :(

I wiped down the stove and am thawing meat to make that broth for her. Maybe that will help. She doesn’t like ice in her water but maybe cool yummy broth will get her through this week too.

Dear HiveMind. Where did my Terrabyte end up after the house move????

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

About 10cm to the left of the first place you looked for it, where you somehow managed to overlook it because your brain decided it was looking for a different colour.
