Voting

  • Level 1: Tribalism
  • Level 2: Political promises
  • Level 3: Policy
  • Level 4: Performance

Most people (including media) are stuck on level 1 - Red Vs Blue.

A Maga Mamdani voter has at least made it to level 2 by seeing that both promise to tackle issues that matter to them. They haven't gotten to level 3 where they compare how those problems would be tackled, or level 4 where they factor in the ability/intent to deliver.

Honestly I think a lot of people just want to throw a brick at this point. So they just pick the most anti establishment person they can. Bernie/Trump/Mamdani, they just see outsiders promising to burn it down and are all aboard. Not saying that's everyone, but the number isn't insignificant.

Anti establishment is an understandable position, but then vote for someone that will actually undermine the establishment. Trump says he is and then works to protect the oligarch establishment which he's a part of.

I mean I know that and you know that, but they aren't voting based on reality they are voting based on their perception of reality.

A lot of people are level 2. Ask why people voted for Trump. "He said he'd lower prices"

[–] coriza@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I think a lot of people claim lvl 2, but in reality it is just an after-the-fact justification. Because when they are pressed about if there is anything the other side could promise or if there is anything bad enough that would make them change their vote they always say no.

Yeah but he also said he can grab 'em by the pussy and shoot people in Times Square etc why they ignore that ?

It's like Christians i guess, they ignore the bits they find inconvenient like its ok to own slaves as long as they are purchasesd from neighbouring countries and stoning people to death for working on the Sabbath.

Because they understand first past the post? They don't like him, but they vote against what they hate.

"stupid people voted in unpredictable ways and we spend a lot of time figuring out why because they are basically the biggest demographic in America"

They were taught to fear Liberals by right wing propagandistic news media, and trump was positioned favorably as a savior. They appreciate less the politic of their choice than they despise the left.

This is an effect of multi-generation spanning conditioning. Anyone not completely submerged in that can see it plain as day. It's why the rest of the world thinks America is full of hateful crazy people.

If they had a third brain cell to rub together they would realize that their unwavering support of Trump & the Republican party is the opposite of what they actually want.

At least they made the right choice for one single vote I guess.

Maga for mamdami

Okay

That's it!

I can finally die, I now officially have seen every possible stupidity on this world.

Because populists don’t have set beliefs.
