I just want to say a few words because I got banned from my local NextDoor app and Reddit 2x because I get so sick of seeing so many pro-ICE class traitors cheering on the abuse thats occuring in our neighborhoods and communities in the Unites States! These same people claim to be patriots as you realize they are the same people that would have snitched on Ann Frank ffs!

The rich people that own these platforms are creating their own fake realities to feel better about themselves using banning features and bot accounts but eventually it will catch up with them. It used to be normal and standard to not be okay with dictatorships and Nazi behavior. Millennials learned about WW2 in schools ffs! We KNOW Hitler is bad!

Its so insanely UN-AMERICAN to cheer on ICE as they LARP around as fake police officers, that are somehow allowed to murder and abduct innocent civilians?! Legally VIA the Federal Government? I stand by every single thing I said in my post and these people have had EVERY SINGLE opportunity to wake up. They choose to either be ignorant or just a crappy human being. Part of living in a society means community and contributing to your neighborhood somehow but instead they choose to side with the budget clown mafia that is our government and the disgusting oligarchs that are sucking all of the US citizens dry, INCLUDING THOSE CHEERING THEM ON! Its absurd and I am so sick of being censored, constantly. I am thankful for the Fediverse... But I wish more people knew about it! Its still very niche... When this time in history is over can we as a society prioritize educating the public on privacy, mesh networks and other peer to peer networking options? This can never happen again.

P.S. I am not angry that I was banned specifically. Its because these same people complained about FrEe SpeEcH and its so evident they only ever used it to be a disgusting racist, sexist ect... hateful human being. Not because they believe in freedom.

Why do people come to Lemmy to complain about other platforms?

It's like complaining about Big Macs at Five Guys. Nextdoor and Reddit sucks, that's why we're not hanging out there in the first place.

[–] epicthundercat@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I get that but its more so be being sick of the rich oligarchs owning the primary ways citizens communicate and then making a fake reality and then using that to influence culture, voting, communities ect... Its a huge problem in general. How many Americans use social media and what % of those are on mainstream platforms? Its awful. I am looking at the much greater social impact as well.

[–] jimmy90@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

you can have the same experience here by disagreeing with the tankies on the ml instances

good luck

[–] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You're preaching to the choir. It's still annoying.

[–] epicthundercat@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

I know.. I am sorry. I just feel to helpless to really be able to do much and its awful. I contact representatives. I am in a union and actively participate. I protest when I can. I helped my local 50501 w/ planning for a bit. I try to educate people but its just so disheartening sometimes and its lonely.

[–] RoquetteQueen@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

You don't need to apologize to someone who is grumpy that not everything written is relevant to him.

[–] diffaldo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No, you are not annoying and Im glad to hear your experience. Its sad that 99% of communication happens in the billionaires platforms.

[–] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Cool, I'm also in a union but I'm near to being homeless and going hungry. Everyone who wants to save the world seems to ignore the people who are in need right in front of them.

My suggestion for your peace of mind is to improve the lives directly in your community. Educating people is fine (when done face to face), but bringing water and basic medical supplies to protesters is going to help attrition.

Go for the smaller victories over writing paragraphs that people skim over.

[–] Hypnotoad_@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

This is such a smug take. You're criticizing someone who clearly cares and is involving themselves in the solutions. Wrong person to get snippy with. You assume so much with your post about the OP. How do you know they ignore the people in front of them?

[–] RoquetteQueen@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

Some people need to vent. You don't need to read it.

[–] TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago

There are lots if people new to Lemmy and not everyone is aware of what really happens on the large platforms. Maintaining awareness is a good thing I think. Especially for new users it can affirm a choice to leave those platforms.

Yeah don't they know that there are pricks like you on Lemmy that will bully them for trying to make conversation?

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I post on NextDoor whenever a new ICE building gets announced and the post ALWAYS gets taken down afterwards.

[–] epicthundercat@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We need a peer to peer version for just local community then because this is disgusting. We have a right to protect ourselves, families and neighbors from the abuse.

These people are this generations version of those you see in the history books, standing around, smiling, at their town's lynching.

[–] epicthundercat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Absolutely. Its absurd.

[–] doug@lemmy.today 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I had to kick myself off Nextdoor for the sake of my blood pressure. I’m trying to work on my mindfulness and not having such hotheaded reactions, but boy howdy does it make my blood boil seeing such bigotry on the feed.

I learned ND doesn’t permaban users anyway. Only temp bans upwards of 6 months.

Also if you have any warnings on your account you can’t have your account deleted until six months after you’ve been warned.

[–] epicthundercat@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Its worse knowing these people live near me and would cheer if my neighbors (and theirs!) got taken. I know people that are immigrants and genuinely are good people. I KNOW if ICE took them and faked the story these people would cheer it on. Its absolutely disgusting to me. Hits a real moral thing for me.

[–] Spot@startrek.website 5 points 1 week ago

I feel for you on this. We have a local happenings group for our area on fb. It's much more of a local racists posting and saying shitty things group. Though, since their #1 rule is no reporting, we don't care about your feelings, I like to go there when I need to vent at these asTrump.

I'm fairly certain its get a lot of fake accounts stirring up shit, so I like to find the ones that actually seem to be a real person and let off a reply with a flood of facts and reputable sources. Then I come back a few days later and view their string of posting back. It follows a usual pattern, unfounded statements, then dems are demented (and everyone not maga is a demonic dem or libruhl, which are one in the same to them), insults, memes of trump. They definitely appear to have a brainwashed/cult mindset.

It won't change anything but it gives me somewhere to let off some steam. And they can't report me for my trolling or they have to admit they got their feefees hurt by a libruhl.

[–] doug@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

Yep.

As an exercise in catharsis I wrote a short found footage film I wanted to make with some friends called How to Prank Your Neighbors! wherein the prank was obviously a fill-in for something way more nefarious.

The setup was something like “say you know your neighbor is a prankster themselves and they were going to take a prank on someone else too far. Is it not your moral obligation to prank them first? Perhaps so badly they cannot do the harmful prank of their own?”

It’d go into how to get around your neighbor’s security system, how to occupy their dog, and get into their house unnoticed so you could then… prank your neighbor.

Friends told me I should pull my punch by the end, so it ended with the protagonist getting pranked by some unseen party who had been observing them because— after all— the protagonist fit their own description of someone who needs to be pranked, but uhh…

…yeah I dunno, I think if you know your neighbor is a Nazi-in-waiting, they don’t deserve to go… unpranked?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

And HOAs are asking people to sign up at ND. Like wtf people or, why are we relying on some third party service who can moderate and ban at their own discretion, and make their own content policies? I’m not signing up for that shit.

[–] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

You made some good points

If you can avoid getting banned next time maybe you will inspire change in others

Take care

[–] superkong47@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sounds like me and you are living parallel life’s, I’ve been banned from Reddit and other platforms as well all for doing exactly as you said- standing up to fascist and Nazis- it’s clear they want to keep us in our place while they break us down. Reddit has become really bad since the election, it’s heartbreaking but I refuse to go quietly

[–] epicthundercat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Same! I had a 12 year old account that never had so much as a strike and then I started to go viral and made it into the top 1% club on there or whatever and then they banned me for no reason at all. Then, my partner let me use his old account because he wasnt using it and it was also around 12 years old (I had a new phone and VPN). Same happened! I went viral speaking truth, they got scared BAM banned... no appeal allowed. Permanent ban on both! Nothing I shared was against the rules. It was just anti violence and anti fascist.

Oh, and r/economiccollapse is where it started, after Elon threw a fit and the site cracked down thats the page I was going viral on all the time and they switched mods at the same time Elon bitched... and then I got banned. Coincide? Idk, but it pisses me off. They dont want to hear about billionaires stealing from the working class and they dont want to hear about how toxic this entire regime is when it was completely NORMAL to shit talk Naiz and billionaires not even what, 10 years ago?!

Eventually this fake reality will catch up with them. Humans are intelligent and find ways around systems. Faking your entire reality while yelling about free speech isnt going to work for very long.

[–] deathbird@mander.xyz 7 points 1 week ago

ND is just FB all over again, but by neighborhood rather than friend group. Fake names, rants, and e-begging. You could get a better experience with any other website.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago

I was on ND for about a week, some 8 years ago. Absolute dog shit hellsite that somehow makes FB look reasonable by comparison. Ended up shit-canning it because I'd rather not have to know that I'm surrounded by shitcunts.

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

Lot's of people seem to only care about free speech when their opinions are getting censored, but are perfectly happy to censor others' speech. Even here on Lemmy. It's a huge lack of self awareness.

[–] Bot@sub.community 4 points 1 week ago

Don’t worry, you’ll be banned by several servers here as well :)

18%? 🪫

Post needs text alternative.Images of text break much that text alternatives do not. Losses due to image of text lacking alternative:

  • usability
    • we can't quote the text without pointless bullshit like retyping it or OCR
    • text search is unavailable
    • the system can't
      • reflow text to varied screen sizes
      • vary presentation (size, contrast)
      • vary modality (audio, braille)
  • accessibility
    • lacks semantic structure (tags for titles, heading levels, sections, paragraphs, lists, emphasis, code, links, accessibility features, etc)
    • some users can't read the image due to lack of alt text (markdown image description)
    • users can't adapt the text for dyslexia or vision impairments
    • systems can't read the text to them or send it to braille devices
  • searchability: the "text" isn't indexable by search engine in a meaningful way
  • fault tolerance: no text fallback if
    • image breaks
    • image host is geoblocked due to insane regulations.

Contrary to age & humble appearance, text is an advanced technology that provides all these capabilities absent from images.

While I don't know anything about Nextdoor, has it occurred to you that you would have been banned for any rant whatsoever or are there rants on there defending ICE & bashing protesters that don't get banned?

These are the logical rewards of expecting social media companies to police & deplatform "undesirables" when people grew too complacent to uphold norms of open discourse by educating or discrediting idiots the old-fashioned way.

Politics on Nextdoor? Yeah, that’s cringe. It’s for lost dogs and shit, dude

Even if you say “hating ICE isn’t politics,” making blanket statements about hating all your neighbors isn’t what Nextdoor is for

[–] epicthundercat@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

People have been posting on there about it all constantly in my area. Thats why I made that post. Its even more gross when its neighbors saying they are okay with other neighbours being killed. Two people were shot by ICE in Portland and died not long ago. Its impacting everyone. Especially the community.

[–] Jimbabwe@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Politics IS next door, my dude. They’re kicking in doors. I‘m concerned about your lost dog AND gestapo shit happening down the street.
