That's one way to interpret the fact that the past generations have spent billions promoting and normalizing homophobic views for decades, tailored specifically to young males.

First time I'm hearing about this

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 50 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You must be new to the internet then.

We can reasonably correlate this with the rise in racism and the wideninig wealth gap. The usual simple solution, blame anyone different.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Except the billionaires. Don't blame them. They really really truly rooly care about each and every one of us, which is why they pay politicians to help them.

Ah yes, unimaginable wealth always flows down, to others, according to carefully proven evidence from (checking notes)......... the unimaginably wealthy! Hoooray! /s

[added /s just in case]

I really should've put the /s at the end.

I mean, that's wild because the 80s and 90s were pretty homophobic too. So even worse than then? Just great...

There was progress for a few years from 2005-2015.

Knows as the Fabulous decade.

There certainly should be a lag there, from the influences and efforts to the result, from teenagers growing under that to then becoming adults, and from what I see everything rooted in the 90s got it's lamplight in the 00s and 10s with more acceptance, while the reactive bigotry of 10s gets realized in 2020s. And the lag is getting shorter because our attention span and effectiveness of social media does too.

They basically treat being a gay man like some sort of communicable disease in that period. It's so sad to see all this sponsored regression

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The AIDS epidemic didn't help that at all.

Neither did the mentality of... But it's the gays disease, so let them die... Fuck you Reagan

[–] Rachelhazideas@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm sorry I'm afraid it's terminal.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

these generalizations are always annoying. it suggests in some group homophobia went away and is not coming back. its a thing like racism that is always going to be present to some degree or another. I deally we get to a point where there is little to none. The real problem is things like censorship and making things not allowed to be discussed in schools or such.

[–] Baggie@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

This is just a psyop from big straight don't fall for it

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

For fuck sake, so long as they're consenting adults, who *cares *who people love?! Jesus, some people like to stick their nose into nosephobic group meetings!

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've seen this plot enough times to know anyone who is a homophobe is just suppressing their own gay desires.

[–] CXORA@aussie.zone 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Nah, fuck that. Homophobia is not the fault of gay people. Fuck off.

[–] HisArmsOpen@crust.piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago

Sadly, this will reflect (political) swings to the extreme right. Currently an American finding, but I suspect similar here in the UK with Farage and friends having a popularity bloom.

[–] bigmamoth@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

where this can come from ? i though we had cancel anybody that didnt praise the lgbtqia2+ movement

[–] minorkeys@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Clearly that propaganda has some competition.

[–] SalaciousBCrumb@lemy.lol 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So you bought into the right wing propaganda and believed a lie?

[–] bigmamoth@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

what propaganda ? the experience of you treating ppl that doesnt alllign at 100% with your wolrdview ?

[–] SalaciousBCrumb@lemy.lol 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The propaganda that cancel culture was actually a thing and not something rightwing losers made up.

[–] bigmamoth@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

idk have you ever tried to not have "popular opinion" on subject of the day ? it s a thing on multiple platform.
