None of that is where his current fortune came from. That just gave him the ability to get to the US, via Canada, from South Africa.

The base of his fortune came from selling PayPal to eBay back in 2002.

No, actually it came from his brother starting a multimillion dollar business and give musk a handout with a job that regular joe would never get. His brother got the start up money from daddy. When it sold, musk got 22 million, which he then invested into PayPal. He did not start paypal, he was just an investor. Just like he did not start tesla, he was just an investor.

Not quite - after selling Zip2 with his brother, Musk co-founded x.com which merged with Cofinity, the combined company becoming PayPal. Relevant Wikipedia page. And if he was just an
