I owned a Dreamcast 20 some years ago. It was one of the funnest systems ive had. It sadly got destroyed in a flood. Ever since then ive been on the fence about getting another one; well I figured, theyre getting old and its gonna be impossible to find one soon, so I bought 2 (kind of on accident, I won a bid i didnt intend to)!

Im super pumped. I already have way too many consoles but the dreamcast is just too awesome. I know I'll likely have to do the sd card mod and replace the psu, which is fine.

I was also very excited to see the online hobby community is still alive!! I would LOVE to get mine going for some online games someday.

Now to make space for it or decide if I can part with another console ๐Ÿค”

The Dreamcast is the best. There is an emulator that feels abandoned but it's still fine for now: https://redream.io/

And if you buy a license for a few bucks, you get high definition graphics.

There may be open source emulators but I have never looked for them.

I think Flycast is the most popular one now

Yeah I tried flycast and it works excellent.

I was on the fence. But after I would spend all that money on adapting the real controllers to use on my pc and then futzing with all the emulation and then not being able to play on my crt, I figured why not get a real one again. The systems arent expensive yet, I paid 120 for one with 2 controllers and 2 vmus with all cables, in working condition.

You can mod it with an sd card to avoid any parts failures.

Any good links to where to get that kit? Im having trouble finding a reputable one.

I don't have one so I can't vouch for any sellers. I was just following the development of it when it was first released.

Yeah, GDEMU seems like hes way backed up or maybe not making them now. There are some $100 China knockoff on ebay but id rather pay the guy for his work...

Here's hoping my disc drives keep working for a while!

My DC has the cheap 3rd party psu it's fine but you want a good wall wart for it, I use a wii psu brick with a soldered barrel connector. If you can recapping the original psu is the best bet though.

For the ode I have the GDEMU cheap Ali express one is fine I think the original ones are hard to get.

Then I did the noctua fan mod. It's a very loud machine by modern standards.
