Eh, the version currently on there is janky as shit and loses video output if your screen blanks itself or you move your mouse out of the window and click off the game. If they are releasing the OG version as something running on a more modern engine than something written for Windows 98, that's probably not the end of the world.

Yep, mods and the 1990s PC version had higher resolution rendering and textures. And I think the audio output used General MIDI (FF8 definitely did), so if you had a hardware synth box like a Roland MT-32 or SC-33 rompler kicking around, you got better music than the PSX version, too.
Oh did they make a remade ff7 that was what everyone wanted the ff7 remake to be (the old one but with updated graphics, ui etc)
