Independence from USA on IT has been sorely needed since the 80's.
For some reason nobody has been able to make it work, not even Russia or China who both have been very motivated for it for decades.

I hope we will finally succeed now that the interest is more global.

How has china not been able to make it work? Or do you mean hardware specifically? Because with Google and Meta stuff banned, among others, I'd say they've gotten pretty far

It's surprising they've never moved to Linux, considering the urgency and the power of the chinese state to steer society.

there seems to be a push to switch currently

Thought they did? Don’t they (both china and Russia) have modified versions of Linux they use?

I am actually looking to buy a Phone made in Europe. Nothingphone from UK or Fairphone that are Dutch. 😀 need a little more research before i make up my mind.

I've switched from iPhone to Fairphone 6 around it's release and I'm loving it! I barely notice any difference.

I have a fairphone 4. I recommend lineage over e/os due to the encryption lineage comes with plus better overall support.

e/os does get monthly patches, but pretty annoying bugs have been left untouched for years.

There's also https://iode.tech/

I've been using it for couple years before I switched to GrapheneOS and it worked great.

Good.

Even if we don't manage to do it fully it's still an exercise worth doing.
