Resist: It's Time

We are still in this together, but "this" is going to be real different in the very near future. This demands a different kind of "we."

The French Resistance during Nazi occupation played important roles delivering downed Allied airmen back to safety, supplying military intelligence, and acts of sabotage.

The Underground Railroad is estimated to have brought 100,000 freedom seekers to safety between 1810 and 1850.

It's time.

If you're not already connected to local organizing efforts where you are, start looking for ways to change that:

  • Look up if there are any mutual aid hubs around you
  • go to protests and ask around
  • try to get involved with food not bombs and see if you can get linked in with more efforts
  • If ICE/CBP were sent to your state, you might ask folks who organizes ICE watch in your area. Here in central NC thats a workers rights group called Siembra

Any efforts to protect our futures and our neighbors will happen through local organizing with people in YOUR community, where YOU are at. If you want a democracy, this chapter of history seems to demand that we work for it; start figuring out how to get connected.

If you have advice or encouragement for folks, please feel free to share it ❤️

Find if your city already has organizations, if not the easiest is to start a 50501 group and push it on social media and make an event on mobilize.us. Pick a busy intersection and it will grow every time you organize the next one.

Don't compete with other organizations, unite and collaborate.

I started with 10 people in my red city and then helped organize a protest of 4k people within 6 months. You'll see how much people want this.

Have thick skin as well. My family and I have been threatened and harassed by the local MAGA idiots who just want to start shit. Good luck.

50501 is a great way to get connected! They have a discord server for NC (https://discord.gg/62cWYvwgs) with channels where folks will discuss other projects for a local area, it can be a great entry point! For folks seeing this it might be worth seeing if they have a server for your state also!

Don't compete with other organizations, unite and collaborate.

Excellent words of wisdom. It will take working together.

I'm sorry to hear y'all have faced harassment, I imagine it varries by where you are. I'm fortunate enough to live somewhere pretty progressive despite being in a red state. Sending love my friend, thank you for your efforts!

I'm still trying to figure out how to get more involved myself. I have some connection to local organizing, but am trying to figure out how to get more involved when a sleep disorder has me asleep durring the day- if anyone has thoughts or suggestions for me I'd welcome them :)

Something thats been on my mind lately that might be a helpful idea for others is linking up with friends and being poll observers or volunteering as poll workers. There's a lot pointing to the polls potentially being a dangerous place to go this election cycle (the MEGA act, and talk of deploying ice to polling locations), folks being there may be an important way to protect your community
