[–] dxgsthrr@feddit.uk 22 points 3 weeks ago

Are you kidding me!? The super bowl halftime show failed to address the 401k values!? Unacceptable!

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

[–] hubobes@piefed.europe.pub 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Real talk! He will avoid arenas his handlers know he'll get boo'd at. But the bitch can't help himself but pay attention to pop culture.

Well let’s be fair, HE should know what is and isn’t appropriate for young kids 🙄

“...makes no sense…” because he spent his prime years fucking kids instead of learning Spanish

"real world"

apparantly the stock market is more real than a fascist paramilitary force kidnapping, torturing, raping, and killing immigrants and US citizens, for which this was ,in part, a protest against.

can yall shoot this fuckin pedophile already?

[–] TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

He’s racist. He’s not ridiculous. He’s a fucking racist. Him and that racist halftime show that for some reason not a single person I’ve seen has called out for being racist even though it’s very fucking clearly just a big racist celebration of racism? For the racist president???

The way Gambino's message and Bad Bunny's message show two completely different, both extremely valid sides of the same powerful argument. Love this.

[–] gary_host_laptop@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, actually what Bad Bunny did was done already by Residente in a song where he replies to Gambino saying the same, that America is not Usonia.

I would also recommend this other video that is also really good: https://youtu.be/Zl_GlPquElI

And he did some tracks with Bad Bunny years ago.

Despite not liking his music, I think that was one of the most entertaining half time shows (other than last year) in the past decade plus.

Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz - Not a nation of immigrants, but a settler colony based on indigenous eviction and genocide.

This is as good as one will get from a liberal artist.

I mean last I checked America was racist as fuck and glorified a felon rapist pedophile by making him their leader.

[–] culprit@lemmy.ml 23 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The United States is just a nation of America. America is two whole continents of peoples. That is the whole point the end of the performance was making. USians aren't the only "Americans".

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world -2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

The implication in his performance is that America, as in the U.S., is a conglomerate of peoples from many places, and doesn't belong to a specific race.

Good message. I agree.

I'm simply pointing out that, right now, based on America's voting habits, the reality is that it's an incredibly racist nation that glorifies felon rapist pedophiles. That is a fact.

The dude didn't stand in the U.S., during the U.S.'s most popular sporting event, and say "this is America" like it's a geography lesson to make sure everyone knows America is two continents. He clearly meant "THIS" as in "the United States". As in "hey look, the U.S. is a mix of races and that's what makes it strong".

Again. I agree. Unfortunately, the majority of voting Americans (United Statesians?) in 2024 did not. Factually.

[–] Xoriff@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I think you might still be missing the point. "America" does not hold elections. "America" is a set of two continents (North and South America). The United States of America is 1 nation on the continent of North America. So when people talk about the USA and refer to it as "America", it's kind of like if people talking about the UK referred to it as "Europe".

The whole point of it was to criticize how USA-centric USians are by completely discounting that they are 1 country of many on the American continents. This is so much the case that it seems to confuse some people who think that "America" and "The United States of America" are synonyms.

edit: err, maybe you do get it? I can't tell. I didn't get much "melting pot" from it and thought it was more a celebration of Puerto Rico with a little bit of "get over yourselves mainland US. The rest of the Americas are pretty sick too in their unique ways

[–] orc_princess@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

I haven't watched it, but based on comments here, didn't they mention countries from América? In Spanish that includes everything from Argentina and Chile all the way up to Canada. So the context of it being América rather than the US would be very transparent from my perspective.
