Love the meme, but at least Sauron was a genuine threat. Russia's purchasing power is eclipsed by Europe and the US more than tenfold. It's an embarrasment that we simply don't out-spend Russia's weapon-manufacturing capabilities to properly bolster Ukraine's defense.

Russia's threat is their intelligence and manipulation network. They literally took over our country and baiting and funding a moron.

They are playing Civilization with spy units. All the direct armies in the world don't matter if the damage is being done by like 50 people and a bunch of bot accounts.

It was a long winding road to get here, but the answer is racism.

No, I think Reagan was before that?

And Buckley and his ilk before that. That’s where fusionism came from. Prior to that you sort of had two distinct conservative movements in the US, one fiscally conservative (libertarian) and one socially conservative (traditionalist). In the 60s they started to merge in to the new right. Sort of came to a head with Jerry Falwell throwing in his lot with Reagan.

I'd say at Plymouth rock. The Native Americans would have done so much good for the world with their culture and ideals.

The US has always been problematic in one way or another, and the seeds for the rise of fascism were planted during the Clinton era by Newt Gingrich and crew. It was definitely the exploitation of the tragedy of 9/11 that gave them carte blanche to really start pointing their powers inward. The Patriot Act, the creation of DHS, moving immigration enforcement from the DOJ, with its rules and procedures, to DHS and its complete lackmof accountability. The list goes on.

A country founded by slave owning tax dodgers with the "ideals" of those slave owning tax dodgers enshrined in its constitution can only be so free.
