1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

I'll always watch a presentation from a purple-haired cyberpunk over some bizbro with an array of asshole-shaped logos behind him.

(Actually, her presentation about using Qt in a car UI went way over my head, so I only watched a few minutes of it. But I'm watching exactly zero minutes of anything Nadella says nowadays.)

    Woah that's some crazy drip

Who's the badass with the glasses? I want her to tell me "I don't give a fuck", but we all know she secretly does.

    [–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Victoria Fisher or Victoria Fierce, called differently in different places online, I think that Fierce is more current.

    https://towns.gay/@tdfischer

    https://github.com/tdfischer

Screenshot from this talk in her role at Mercedes:

    https://www.qt.io/development/resources/videos/customer-case-mercedes-benz-with-victoria-fischer-qtws23

Whole Lee crap! I'm a typical cis-het dude, and while I'm less physically attracted to her without the glasses, I am so much more intellectually attracted to her after that protocol talk!

She is such a badass, and obviously does not secretly care, she is openly passionate! And that's pretty dope.

    Kool Desktop Environment

KDE is not an acronym anymore, but back when it was only a DE and not a big FOSS dev organization, that's what it stood for

    [–] b_tr3e@feddit.org 6 points 3 weeks ago

I thought it was a self-referring acronym and stood for K Desktop Environment? Anyway it was a reference to CDE, the Common Desktop Environment of SUN, HP and a couple of other commercial Unices.

    you go girl!

KDE also has a pretty good VSCode alternative, KATE. You can actually disable the AI agent, takes up much less resources, only thing it lacks is a DAB plugin, which I'm working on the sides.

    [–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You can actually disable the AI agent

Kate has an AI agent now?

Been using it daily for years, never seen a hint of that. Maybe it's just because I haven't updated to the very latest version.

    [–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a plugin, and it's disabled by default even.

    [–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 5 points 3 weeks ago

Guess that's why I haven't seen it then. Haven't touched the configuration since I first got it how I like it years ago.

    [–] Shipgirlboy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I've been using Kate for something like decades and now you're telling me it's more than just a fancy text editor?

    [–] enbiousenvy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 3 weeks ago

it's more than fancy, it's KDE's Advanced Text Editor. Otherwise that's Kfte

    [–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

It's almost on par with VSCode nowadays, and that little loss of a few plugins worth it for the exchange of less resource usage, and not trying its best to force you to do vibe coding.

    [–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

For some reason I thought Kate was just a CLI tool, more akin to vim than vscode. I was mistaken and this actually looks pretty awesome.

Autogenerated subtitles are wrong, its actually 'cutie'.

    [–] ulterno@programming.dev 24 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's originally pronounced "cute" as that also prevents confusion with QT (Apple QuickTime).
Due to everyone around me (physically) calling it Q.T., I have picked that up too. And then companies creating JDs write it down as QT, making me cringe every time.
Thankfully, QuickTime is mostly not in use, meaning that anyone really posting for it would most probably use its full form, so I can know that Qt is referring to Qt.

I remember trying to watch videos back in the day that required or needed QuickTime to be installed in Firefox. Man, that brought back some memories! Lol

    [–] lendra@feddit.org 5 points 3 weeks ago

She calls it "cute" in the video too
