Probably safe to assume that by housing affordability he means affordability of mansions and by cutting red tape he's referring to getting rid of regulations stopping him from sucking up whats left of the Murray Darling..

Is our population really dumb enough to believe this walking cesspit?

The party who kicked off the housing crisis under Howard by: Bringing in the CGT discount. Ramping up immigration to then record levels. Handing out first home buyers grants.

Is now somehow going to unfuck things? Ha! Their donors will not allow it.

My prediction is he will look at allowing first home buyers to use their super for housing. All the while repeating lies that he is helping address affordability.

He might offer something that looks like quick relief to get some votes and then walk it back to something his big donors want. Hopefully the Australian voters will have long memories on this.

That said .. he and a bunch of liberals are still getting voted in, so there are clearly electorates out there with more than half their constituents who think the Coalition are not a bunch of incompetent slimeballs. I don't want to get into backing a team, Labor are making some shit decisions, but I don't see the Coalition roster changing much and the scale of the corruption during the Howard, Abbott and Morrison years is wild. Their goals during those times were clearly focused on division and fucking over the little guy in favour of the big end of town. Until their focus at least changes to a more socially progressive take on the term "Liberal" they certainly won't be getting my vote.

Currently I think the only benefit of them is that if you preference them immediately after Labor they serve as a good vote-sink to protect against the minor RWNJ parties from getting any votes.

I don't believe him

So he’s going to spend all his time criticising the Government for not doing anything to make housing cheaper , whilst simultaneously blocking any policy changes that might actually help. All the while proposing zero policies that will help housing affordability

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 6 points 2 days ago

Luckily the coalition has limited ability to block anything of consequence right now, hopefully they don't get the opportunity to manipulate the population with their bullshit.

A big-L liberal.

Mr Taylor also flagged the Opposition would push back on any changes to the capital gains tax discount, which benefits property investors when they sell their properties.

"If you tax something more, you get less of it," he said.

Yes, less investors more owners? ??

This dimwit is a bright spark

He's deliberately conning people who don't know better.

How many houses does he own?

should be linked on every article reporting on his "focus on housing affordability"

Yeah, typical malaka self-serving politician. Easy to poo poo on Labor from the sidelines, no way he's gonna tank his fortune.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

You should know by now, that Liberal politicians in particular talk out of the side of their mouths - Angus definitely wants to make (some/new) housing affordable so that he can add a shit-tonne more to his portfolio and continue to rob the working class blind through rent-seeking.

He can say whatever he likes, but only fools would believe him, because - like everyone else in the LNP - he's lied incessantly for decades, and keeps warm by lodging himself firmly up Gina's large intestine.

Unfortunately, Albanese's tarnished Labor so much, they're not a viable alternative. Clearly doing something about housing affordability requires more than just a promise. And maybe he should've asked the country first whether or not we wanted a genocidal maniac over for high tea.

Given I'm not a raging bigot and possess an IQ over 90, I won't be voting PHON.

Or Clot of Trumpriots (or whatever Palmer will market himself as this go-round, with his eye-searing yellow billboards).

Best this former Labor voter can hope for is a decent Indy and the Greens.

Yeah you couldn't really say Labor isn't captured by corporate interests at a federal or state level but at least their corruption isn't as blatant as the Coalition. I'm honestly shocked at how easily country voters are duped into voting for the Nationals.

Albanese and Labor do seem to make quite a few dubious decisions, I wonder how effective sending letters expressing my opinion might be on the Labor policy of toeing the line ..

Couldn't hurt.
