Would it be worh adding communities for each state and territory? I know there are communities for the capital cities eg Sydney, but sometimes I come across a story specific to NSW, so instead I post it here.

I think just go with either Australia, whichever capital city is appropriate for the state, or even both.

We don't get that many posts that further separation is worthwhile IMO, that's a pathway to ending up with a bunch of communities that appear dead from lack of activity (which can be a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy - people only tend to post in places that seem alive). I think we've already fragmented discussion more than is ideal between splitting off news/politics/questions/environment/memes from the general Australia community, regional interests are more understandable but the existing city/state comms are already quiet enough with our current userbase.

Even on Reddit, the state subreddits are an afterthought compared to the capital city subreddits. The best place to go for Queensland politics is /r/brisbane, for example. /r/queensland exists, but is not nearly as active.

If Reddit can't make state subreddits work, I don't think there's much point in us trying here.

P.S., this type of post should be in !meta@aussie.zone.

Thank you for the Reddit comparison! That's very useful information, and next time I'll post in the meta community.

I don't think we're a big enough community to support it. The frugal and gardening communities championed by @melbabouttown barely see any action. I think most of it can be put into this community until it needs some division.

Pretty much agree with other people's comments here.

For my State community, this has been accounted for in the name of the Perth/Western Australia community. To make it clear the community is for the city and the State.

Maybe its different in a city like Perth, but too many people are invested in both the country and the city for it to make sense that they have different communities for what is essentially different parts of their life.

It also has the added benefit of attempting to narrow the country-metro divide that news organisations promote through their different programming decisions. They're limited by broadcast space in a day, a community on Aussie.zone is limited by the server capacity Lodion has organised, in other words we could afford a lot of varied posts different demographics would find interesting under the one banner.

Would be nice to see more regional news, not just another story about Sydney that effects no one outside of Sydney.

I would say if you want to make state based communities make a rule that doesn't allow stories about the capital city otherwise NSW will just be a Sydney 2.0

I would even break it down to individual addresses. If you need to talk to your neighbor, you can just go there.

Although would be nice but I think it's fairly quiet here for it to add any significant value. Maybe something like flairs will help? I dont know if it's a reddit concept?
