I remember reading some Godfather tidbit that said that the cat in The Godfather was a stray found around the set and that Coppola decided to include in the movie. People actually thought that cat was supposed to be some kind of symbolism.

I'll never forget in high school literature class our teacher way over-analyzing every book to pull out every bit of abstract symbolism and it was such a headache. Years later I remember reading the author's perspective on their own writings and they said there was no symbolism intended, it was just a story with details, like life.

If I'm remembering this correctly, Brando didn't learn lines because he felt it interfered with giving a more "natural" performance- they used to use billboards across the street from whatever restaurant they were filming in
very eccentric, to be sure, but IMO and also many other's Os, one of the all time greatest
I think i read somewhere that Brando didn't really care about the script and would mostly improv his lines so those cue cards were probably just guidelines for him and he would do his own thing.
That's the kind of actor he became in his later years as he was aging and decaying and he was already well established in Hollywood so he didn't have too much to prove anymore.
Wasn't he in his mid forties when they were making the godfather?

Brando was kind of a piece of shit.
He didn't treat acting seriously because he knew it was people playing pretend and he was in it for the money, not the fame.
In real life he got a Native American Activist to accept his Oscar for him and make a speech abput Wounded Knee.
Brando was kind of a badass.
Can't remember his lines... Oh what a massive piece of shit. Like seriously, you can't possibly get any worse than that. Basically a child murderer, corrupt politician and used car salesman combined. Good thing we've got people like you around to spot the bad apples.
He seemed to play fast and loose with sexual consent, seems like plenty to warrant "kind of a piece of shit" if not more.

I read that one of his last movies was "The Island of Dr. Moreau" and he absolutely ruined it. He didn't want to learn his lines and would improvise all the time.
