I only own one diamond and I found it on the ground when I was working around rich people and it turned out to be worth a lot. I almost threw it away because I was sweeping when i found it

The misconception that artificial diamonds are in some way "less real" or "inferior" to natural diamonds is demonstrably false (and most likely planted by the diamond mining industry). It's sparkly carbon. That's it. If I was a lady being wooed, I'd be way more impressed by a rock that was a more economically sound investment and that someone scienced the shit out of.

Lab grown diamonds are actually quite different. They're dramatically more clear, brighter in color, and cheaper!

Artificial diamonds can be distinguished precisely because they're mostly flawless. No cracks, no trace deposits, just pure brilliance.

Get her a Moissanite ring, ladies love Moissanite.

[–] TheOneCurly@feddit.online 8 points 1 day ago

My wife gets a lot of compaiments on hers. You get a decent size stone for way less money, it's basically as hard as diamond from daily wear perspective, and the luster is better.

I used to be a copywriter for a Moissanite company. They love to hint that it's a special space rock.

How do you know slaves aren't forced to mine moissanite?

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

All modern uses of Moissanite are from lab-grown, synthetic sources.

The way to be 100% sure, would be to gain access to a capable lab and grow your own gems.

[–] StaticFalconar@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Zero percent of moissanite is mined.

also it's just a useless rock on a finger, put it on my grinder wheel and now we're talking

[–] Klear@quokk.au 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm NOT putting my finger on your grinder wheel.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The good news is that with bad economy, younger generations are buying diamonds less, so it's hurting diamond miners. But the demand for cheaper diamonds mean it's good for synthetic diamond manufacturers.

If only if we could do away with marriage in its entirety.

I specifically buy lab diamonds in my jewelry. They are just as if not more strong and beautiful. Like, what, sorry my diamonds are too pure for you susan
