AP News: Soldiers keep up clash with cartel gunmen a day after Mexico’s military killed top drug lord

I'm not there right now, but I hear from family and friends that Guanajuato is not a good time. Apparently the Cartels even entered airports. Hope things will turn out for the best, but man... This just seems like some dumbass thing Trump pushed for

This isn't really against Trump's interests as long as the blame lands on Sheinbaum and her government.

I won't go as far as to say that the plan is a strategy of tension to undermine her government, but...

Yeah, this sort of shit very much plays into Trump's hands. It's exactly what the cartels are for.

How do Sheinbaum and Morena handle something like this? I don't see a positive way out. Hopefully she doesn't take the blame, at least.

Mexico needs to socialize more and more of the economy and shift more and more away from dealing with the US at all, including people going to/from there.

The US will not just sit by and watch that happen. Huge chunks of the Mexican economy are US-owned capital, and what isn't is closely tied into US capital flows.
