US threats to seize Greenland have created ‘new international fault lines’ that can be used to spread disinformation, Danish intelligence agencies say

Denmark’s intelligence services have warned that a foreign power may try to sway the general election on 24 March, saying the main threat was from Russia over support for Ukraine but also citing the chaos caused by US efforts to seize Greenland.

The PET police intelligence service and FE military intelligence said in a joint statement the election campaign could be marked by disinformation and cyberattacks “to sow division, influence the public debate or to target candidates, parties or specific political programmes”.

may

No. They've been doing it for years.

"Because it benefits Russia" is honestly the most cogent reason I've heard for his obsession with Greenland.

So launch an information campaign to counter the misinformation.. why are politicians always so passive about this? They always make it sound like only the right wing can spread on social media. It’s like they don’t want to win. Or don’t have / understand their principles to run an appealing information campaign.

If the right wing wins, liberals get to be the heroes from their stories as they heroically beat back the fascist menace. If the left wing wins, liberals are the villains and people dance on their graves. So I get why their heart isn't in it.

As for leftists spreading leftist information.... Hi! We don't have capitalists funding us so it's just me right now.

The problem isn’t funding. Using AI to generate content, as well as paying people to comment isn’t that expensive. That’s all the right wing does. And it’s not just the left currently, but the democratic establishment, who have the problem with the right wing propaganda too, and they’re well funded too.

Russia and the USA have a long history of election interference around the world.

We (USA/NATO/EU) can't even agree to stop buying their oil, so they are flush with cash

[–] RainbowHedgehog@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

The US is not buying Russian oil.

Correction: The US is no longer importing directly but there may be some through shadow refineries that still end up in Russia's pockets. The US has taken no action in stopping investing. So the US can still invest, get dividends, etc.

So the US is buying stake in Russian Oil companies and making profits from it.

In other news: water is wet.

And on the other hand, Trump now claims that China interfered in the 2020 election. Because Hunter Biden. How to separate fake news from real news? Easy, don't listen to the MAGA admin.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago

I am sure China tried to influence it. When you don't have to actually run real elections yourself it leaves plenty of time to interfere with others.

Is it a distraction? Of course.

the US has a shit show and I know this but Putin has been doing this for year and nothing has been done. The only way he will stop is if he is made to stop. Maybe it is time to strike and take him out. Europe has the means so stop playing around.
