Spice sorting turned out to be a lot more effort than I expected, largely because the project kept getting bigger as I went!

But I have now cleaned out and rearranged all the herbs & spices, including freshly grinding a lot of the spices which were close to empty. I was very low on a lot of things and am completely out of ground cinnamon, which hampered my attempt to mix a new batch of mixed spice as well. I now have a shopping list to replace all the things I'm out of.

Today has SUCKED. Extremely busy and today we rolled out a major process change and it was poorly coordinated and communicated. Combined with extremely busy day... not fun.

Hi, I'm CEO and I have a crockery problem. I am currently dealing with it but I would like to apologise to anyone who has given me stuff in the past thinking I will use them in good faith. I do love serving bowls but I don't need 10 of them and I don't need the tiny bowls that go with them.

The good news is someone else will appreciate this stuff more than me.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 hour ago

I just gave away half of everything to the Young Seagoons. ๐Ÿ‘

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 4 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

When your mini-CEO moves out to a place of her own, she'll take quite a lot of it with her. You might want to start a stash in anticipation.

You know when you move out/get married and friends and family give you unused stuff that probably came from their cupboard and you say "thanks' and then shove it in your cupboard and forget about it because it's useless or ugly? That's what happened.

If my daughter wants stuff she can choose what she wants and I'll buy it for her.

Example: There is a large serving bowl with 6 small ones and a matching large plate with 6 smaller plates. Young people don't entertain like this anymore.

Still tides you over until you can purchase what you want.

this is exactly what I did with the Seagoons, offered they look through all my cupboards and they could choose what they want

they got everything they chose except this one sweet kosta boda bowl I liked

we also go shopping together

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 hour ago

Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜˜

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 3 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Yay! You are doing amazing! And I just back from doc too! I need iron but that is not unexpected

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 hour ago

oldgreeg, hugs, hope it's not too debilitating

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 2 hours ago (3 children)

Everyone seems to be at the doctors recently!

I get the results from my blood test tomorrow, last time it showed low iron and vit. D, and given I've not been anywhere near as good as I should have been at taking the recommended suplements I expect I will have the same result again.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 hour ago

another, may I suggest iron gummies , so easy

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 4 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

I have a doc thing as well. My right ear has been blocked for a week and it's time to get it flushed

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Some doctors won't do it unless you've softened the wax beforehand. It's worth getting the waxsol ear drops and using them a few days before your appointment. Makes it a lot easier.

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Yeah I grabbed some a couple days ago but honestly it doesn't seem to have made a huge difference.

Hopefully it does when its time to get it blasted out.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 hour ago

that's sounds uncomfortable , hope it's fixed soon

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 2 hours ago

my iron and vitamins are good, my kidneys and liver normal, no inflammation anywhere, no rheumatoid arthritis ( just wear and tear ), I don't need meds, blood pressure good, doc said lose 5 kg, I said, "attainable goals!" and I'll do it by dieting

Thursday I go to a special clinic for food allergy testing , with the results I can plan my everyday diet better ๐Ÿ™‚

and 2 weeks from now get the dreadful circulation in one leg looked at

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 5 points 3 hours ago

Just had a fruitful conversation and maybe I could get a job at barbecue sauce?

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

I've been sorting out my spices etc. and some of that stuff has been around way too long - expiry dates 8-10 years ago! I think it's time to toss most of it and buy fresh.

I would also like to question my past self as to why she bought so much of so many different types of salt. I have rock salt, ground salt and salt flakes, all with iodised and non-iodised versions. Plus pink salt and black salt. The only saving grace is that salt doesn't go off. Although the black salt smells like it has and I haven't liked any of the uses recommended for it, so I've made the executive decision to toss that one out. Now I only have 7 different types of salt to manage!

I sort the pantry and all my cupboards every six months, just a habit from being an expat and not having much stuff

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 2 points 1 hour ago

My pantry is mostly pretty good, there's just a few areas that got a bit out of control, especially the spices. I had a bit much clutter and ended up with bits spread everywhere, then I'd buy more of things because I couldn't find them. And then of course I moved house which just compounded the chaos.

I've got a spot cleared now to store all the bulk stuff (I mostly buy whole spices and grind my own). There are a few things in there I don't really use to get rid of, and most of the older packets are pretty much empty.

[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

Is the black salt, kala namak? aka eggy salt, it has sulphur in it. It might be supposed to smell like that.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, it is. It is supposed to smell like that, but it's not something I actually liked. I kept seeing things about how it was really great in egg dishes so I thought I'd give it a try, but I really didn't like it.

[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 2 points 1 hour ago

I use it to make tofu taste eggy for tofu scramble.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

I was at a fancy buffet breakfast recently that had an entire salt range! And a honey bar. Absolutely loved it. You could set up your own salt bar!

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Fuck corner cupboards. I had to basically get inside the cupboard with head down, feel around in there and slither back out. I found relics.

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Big glass turntable to fit in corner. Then you just swizzle it to access the nether regions. You can get these at 40cm or more wide.

example

I have one for my corner cupboards.

Blood draw successful. I did not freak out

Now, food

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The song is called "Norman fucking Rockwell".

And the chorus is fucking amazing.

[โ€“] tone212_@aussie.zone 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

This entire album is so good.

I just started listening to it yesterday.

I'm a huge fan of the first album, but never dug into the rest till now.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I just went to post my bowel screening test back and realised I forgot to actually put the tubes in the envelope. I actually had the envelope in the delivery slot when I realised, luckily I hadn't let go yet.

The Temu return was much more successful. The dodgy ill-fitting shoes are now out of my life.

[โ€“] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

hahaha. Thanks - I'll make a note to remember that myself!

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I worked out it costs me $650 a week after tax in travel time costs for work.

Crazy.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 6 hours ago

Time is valuable.

If you worked from home you could use that time more productively.

[โ€“] Alamutjones@aussie.zone 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Iโ€™m off to get some blood drawn

[โ€“] Eagle@aussie.zone 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Must be a sharp pencil!

Sorry, I'll see myself out....

PT really sucks ass.

Left the house at 7:20am and due to "signalling faults" I ended up going back home.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

signalling faults = people stealing the copper wires

Considering where I live that wouldn't be surprising.
