I'm looking to get plenty of ratings (muti-eng, IFR, night etc etc) and the best thing is that I can do all my flight training without the pressure of having to do commercial ratings. I can just pick and choose whichever ratings I want, and based on my own financial situation!

And then, once I learn how to fly, I can use my flight credentials as a "nice to have" sort of skill. I'll be in a league separate from purely academic engineers in the aerospace job market

Whereas for commercial pilots, getting all their ratings is just the bare minimum of what they need :3

Air traffic controller with the ratings you are talking about here.

Yes and no. Flying not being a job is cool yeah, but there are aircraft types that are impossible to fly without being employed to do so. Mostly all the ones with a type rating. Even if I had the type rating how am I going to find and rent an A350, A320, A220, CL650 etc?

Hell even a PC12 is hard to come by if I can’t buy my own and buying one is, well, fucking expensive…

That most realistic thing I’ve seen is a company (not an airline, something like industrial manufacturing) buying its own SEP instead of a car and it’s flown by the boss to tour the country/manufactures (a DA40 if I remember correctly).

Or maybe I’ll buy a TBM9, PC12 or Cessna Caravan instead of a house and retire living in my "flying van"
