I would buy a ps5 if I could do this. Sony could make a bunch more money by selling unlocked units. But of course, they won't.

They don't make money on the hardware, but on the games sold.
Selling unlocked console would put them at risk of getting cannibalized by Steam.
The PS5 is essentially just a PC anyway, you just need to get through the Hypervisor BS as this guy did. It has AMD CPU/GPU inside, so it's just a matter of making the kernel drivers detect what I imagine to be standard AMD RDNA2, but a custom identifier GPU detect and go to work.
Nice job though.
Didn't ps5 just get hacked at the bios or kernel level iirc allowing it to have a custom OS installed
Quite awhile ago, but that's not the barrier here.
I'd like to do this to mine..I haven't even plugged it to the internet. Just a glorified 4k blurry player.
only console that isnt just a PC with gate keeping is the Switch. Which is just basically a fancy tablet with gatekeeping.
The Switch hardware is so close to Android tablets (and Nvidia Shield) that the OS was almost based on CyanogenOS (Venture capital version of CyanogenMod (was a fun Android ROM back in tho day))
i'd say its just an upgraded shield thats badged for nintendo.
