Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Link layers? Alright GIMP, you've finally convinced me. This is 99% of smart objects from Photoshop and I think it's finally time for me to seriously learn this program. No more dual booting for Photoshop.
If you're cominig from Photoshop look into Photogimp.
I just tried it and it's awesome! They could update it for 3.2
I love how much simpler it is in this release to make independent effects/adjustment layers. You just make a group layer and set the mode to 'Pass through'. Then the adjustments/effects/filters you put on it are a) applied to all layers below it b) fully non-destructive and c) can have their own mask.
The number of adjustments you can make non-destructively - and have full control over - makes GIMP 3.2 the most powerful non-destructive editor that I know of.
Such a huge usability improvement! I always tried to mimic this kind of workflow with what was available before, but it never worked seemless and I always forgot how I did it last time (lol, but also sad). This release is such a big deal.
Yeah! The workarounds I had before were complicated and didn't perform very well, so this is a major improvement.
I suspect that it will be easy for the GIMP team to make this a new layer type of its own and make it even simpler too.
We’ve expanded the outline features in the text tool to support “centered” and “outer” outline directions, in addition to the existing “inner” outline.
I know this was brought up as a limitation when the outline feature was originally introduced in 3.0, and this update seems to address the limitation and make this a viable feature that I will probably actually use now instead of my current workaround for outlining text!
