They seem to mean rotating the sound, not balancing the L and R. Imagine laying on your back. An airplane rolls overhead on the soundtrack. It sounds like it's coming from your headboard rather than the sky, because your head is flat. The OP wants the sound to still be in the sky, essentially rotating the soundscape forwards 90 degrees.

I'm gonna say I'm grateful for this one, I don't want someone's unwashed ass on my couch.

Link layers? Alright GIMP, you've finally convinced me. This is 99% of smart objects from Photoshop and I think it's finally time for me to seriously learn this program. No more dual booting for Photoshop.

Nah, having a useful tool built in is a good user experience, provided you can remove it. Windows fails on the second part. But I think OS's should aim to have simple tasks covered by default apps such as Paint on Windows or Libre Office on most Linux distros, and an anti virus is probably a necessary install for many Windows users.

While true, I found myself mildly irked by the KDE emoji picker at times. On Windows, you focus an input, press Super+., and then can click any character and it immediately inputs so I can type out 🫵🍽️🤔 easily. On KDE it only copies the character, so the flow is (if I remember right) Super+., click a character, focus the input, paste, Super+., click a character, focus the input, paste....

I've found most Linux clipboard managers share the same issue of having to leave the text flow to copy an input and paste it again. Basically they are treated as separate apps rather than popups.

No no, confine them to their own space. I believe in robot segregation lol.

For some reason as a teenager I watched Fantastic Mr Fox about 17 times over several years. It is a good movie, but I can't say I recommend anyone else watch it that much. Once is enough.

Vtubers are a subset of streamers, they are subject to all the same drama and content. People just like to separate them because, similar to anime, there are many people who watch vtubers but don't watch other streamers.

[–] IronKrill@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Because it's blatantly wrong. Many high profile vtubers have had their faces on stream or leaked and they are usually average to way above average looks and often get more views on their IRL content. I am sure some are ugly, but claiming it as a primary reason as if all vtubers have image issues is provably false.

I just reinstalled Windows this week, saying no to everything, and I swear they did not ask me about OneDrive like before. My folders were set up as OneDrive with no opt out.

This also means modifying your git pull command to pull the correct branch. A small change perhaps, but may be harder than just committing to main lol.

I had a similar problem with GitHub actions, it was hard to test without messing up the main repo history.

I would love to see alternatives/replacements to them that are less opinionated. If you aren't ready to consign your entire library to destructive edits and file replacements then it really is hard to fit any arr program into your workflow. Because I have a few files I want to keep pristine and a few opinions on what gets downloaded, I've hit a snag every time I try to set up any arr program. Lidarr, for example, simply refuses to allow a root dir to be read only. I still have yet to get any up and running.

Hi, apologies for yet another "help me replace my Windows app 😭" post. I am attempting to move to Linux and have been mostly successful - day-to-day stuff, programming, games, it all works great! The biggest deal-breaker so far has actually been a music player... Is there anything that comes even close to MusicBee? I have yet to find it and am surprised there is such a gap in the space considering Linux seems full of data hoarders and collectors. Before you ask, I have tried running MusicBee through Wine but I just don't think it will work - Everything is 3x slower than in Windows, there are little bugs everywhere, pressing the wrong dialogue may crash the program, and some pages just don't load... So! Let's get into my pipe-dream of what I would want to keep from MusicBee:

Must-haves (deal-breakers):

  • Multiple artist tags!!! All my files have artists tagged separately, with a display artist tagged separate. I can change the internal tags I use, but I can't go without any form of multi-artist support.
  • Browsing and searching by various tags, such as Album Artist and Genre.
  • Support for volume levelled (replay gain) playback.

Features that I feel I need:

  • Scrobbling.
  • Auto playlists that support any combination of tags and preferrably allow referencing other playlists.
  • Registering external tools to send files to via shortcuts or context menus, to supplement the features that I inevitably will miss.

Nice-to-haves (could be replaced with another app or script or by re-organising my library):

  • Tag editor
  • Support for custom tags.
  • Conversion to other file types including playlist re-labelling.
  • File moving and re-organisation based on user-customisable formats, i.e <Album Artist>/<Album>/<Title>.
  • Tagging of volume levelling (replay gain).

Yeah, I don't think it's happening either. But I figure I should ask before I just give up. Web apps would be fine too, btw! If you're wondering why I want custom tag support, it's because: I've found it much easier to use for auto-playlist creation, and I have found it more resistant to data loss and file moves since I don't have to rely on the music players internal library. It could be replaced by transferring that data into the Comments or Keywords tag, but that still requires very strong auto playlist support.

So my question is this:

Are there any Linux-native music players that fit some of these criteria? If not, what is your favourite that comes close? And as an additional question, if you were to extend an open source player to support any of these features, which do you think would be the best basis to build upon?

I have had a couple of occurences now where I post something then immediately delete it for one reason or another, yet the post keeps gaining votes and attention. When I check the post on lemmy.ca it returns a 404 but I can still view the post on the instance that it was posted to. Is this because I'm using the Photon front end or is this just a Lemmy thing? This seems like a rather large oversight...

I know they've been getting more controlling over time, but blocking an entire browser, really? I've been watching YouTube over Firefox for 5+ years now just fine, and now they shut me out arbitrarily? Nah, fuck that.

Edit: It's something wrong with the new LibreWolf update and my profile. Causes issues in both normal and private browsing, but not a different profile and is solved by switching user agent.

A deeper look into Canada's long-standing high tariffs on certain US imports and why they don't actually apply to most current trade.

"If the countries took a true approach to reciprocating tariffs, then the US would simply copy Canada's tariff quota, which would mean that neither country would pay any more based on current trade balances"

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on unjustified U.S. tariffs against Canada:

“Today, after a 30-day pause, the United States administration has decided to proceed with imposing 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian exports and 10 per cent tariffs on Canadian energy. Let me be unequivocally clear – there is no justification for these actions.

“While less than 1 per cent of the fentanyl intercepted at the U.S. border comes from Canada, we have worked relentlessly to address this scourge that affects Canadians and Americans alike. We implemented a $1.3 billion border plan with new choppers, boots on the ground, more co-ordination, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. We appointed a Fentanyl Czar, listed transnational criminal cartels as terrorist organizations, launched the Joint Operational Intelligence Cell, and are establishing a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force on organized crime. Because of this work – in partnership with the United States – fentanyl seizures from Canada have dropped 97 per cent between December 2024 and January 2025 to a near-zero low of 0.03 pounds seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Canada will not let this unjustified decision go unanswered. Should American tariffs come into effect tonight, Canada will, effective 12:01 a.m. EST tomorrow, respond with 25 per cent tariffs against $155 billion of American goods – starting with tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods immediately, and tariffs on the remaining $125 billion on American products in 21 days’ time. Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn, and should U.S. tariffs not cease, we are in active and ongoing discussions with provinces and territories to pursue several non-tariff measures. While we urge the U.S. administration to reconsider their tariffs, Canada remains firm in standing up for our economy, our jobs, our workers, and for a fair deal.

“Because of the tariffs imposed by the U.S., Americans will pay more for groceries, gas, and cars, and potentially lose thousands of jobs. Tariffs will disrupt an incredibly successful trading relationship. They will violate the very trade agreement that was negotiated by President Trump in his last term.”

"If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do anything, including cutting off their energy — with a smile on my face,"

"They need to feel the pain. They want to come at us hard? We've got to go back twice as hard," Ford continued.

Ford added his government is also prepared to implement a surcharge on every megawatt of energy states purchase from Ontario and "rip up" a $100-million deal with Elon Musk's Starlink internet company. The LCBO has already been directed to remove all American booze from its shelves if Trump moves ahead with his threats.

Okay this feels like such a basic and dumb question but I cannot figure it out. I followed a link to a Mastodon post and saw a reply I wanted to make my own reply to. No problem, I figured I have a CherryPick account which federates with Mastodon so this should be a breeze. The problem is that post IDs are obviously different across instances so I can't simply modify the URL to find the post and it hasn't synced with my instance so I can't use search to find it either. Obviously I can't login to the Mastodon instance with my account either, sadly, as much as I would love that. So I manually looked up the user and found them on my instance, but despite showing more recent posts I can't find the one I want to reply to! The post they replied to is available on my instance, their account is available, why the heck is this one reply just not available! What do I do here, just give up?

Description from original poster:

Happened a year ago so we’re almost finished with construction.

My car was parked on the right side on the break in the concrete. He was going 45-50 mph and pushed it over 5-10ft of concrete, through a windstorm certified garage door, and into a filled garage.

If my car hadn’t been there he would’ve driven right into one of the front bedrooms.

Had the pictures pop up in my memories and decided to share the crazy experience!

I use the location tracking of Google Maps/Google Timeline constantly for work, and it's exceedingly helpful to know when I was at certain cities, buildings, etcetera. Of course, this means I'm basically signing my soul away to Google. But I can't really find any alternative location tracking apps, even though I would have thought there would be lots available. Are there any good alternatives out there?

The closest I found was Owntracks, but it doesn't work for me for a couple of reasons. Primarily, it doesn't tell me the places I've been, only the latitude/longitude. That isn't helpful. I want to know I was at X or Y convenience store and when my last visit was. Secondly of course, the interface was extremely lacking and I didn't like that it was split across two websites and an app. Why even have a map in the Android app if it doesn't show my location data??

Title, basically. I know I have issues, but I couldn't say if it's depression, ADD, or just general problems. Is the only reason to have a diagnosis so you know what to work on, or are there other benefits such as easier access to therapy?

My question is meant specifically for Canada, but feel free to chip in from other countries. :)
