Cleaning rambles
Cleaning out the fridge. Threw out old dried up bottles of girlie’s medication, the homemade broth she didn’t finish and kitten formula she didn’t want… the open wet food and pumpkin baby food are already in the bin and the opened bag of her dry food has started being fed to the black scallywag before it expires. The plain yogurt she didn’t like anymore can go. :(
Old bags of flour. Bin. Cordial I won’t drink. Out to whoever takes it. Cocoa powder that might be stale. Bin. Cat milk mini cartons. See if vet or shadowy visitor wants. A freshly opened tin of powdered kitten formula with a condensation damaged label that probably wouldn’t be accepted by a shelter… Move sealed tin to freezer in case of random surprise kittens I guess?
Going to run the emptied containers through the dishwasher twice because it doesn’t clean some things well but I’m not up to hand washing everything. It doesn’t rinse very well either. I used a utensil without rinsing it extra under the tap and the soap residue burnt my tongue.
Then I’m going to have to wipe this fridge out and give away stuff from the freezer.
the flies down at the beach are driving me crazy lately, I think they are march flies, they stick
I seriously feel like Pigpen while I'm down there
apparently they like denim, ok, I will wear light colours and see what happens
It's the talk of the fly gun made me wonder if I could use one ...lol
It's March. March flies are allowed. Come April then we can complain about them.
they are nasty
also, I did not find one single murex or spindle shell today 😒
Be careful carrying one around outside the house because they may fall under imitation firearm
it's ok, in oz pretty much noone thinks of guns
Almost enough ladders, gutters and downpipes for today. One more thing to do.
Not a chore if there's a view

So I bought a salt rifle for the flies as recommended here. Lots of fun. One problem: Every time I go to use it after a few days the salt is too moist for it to work properly and I have to clean it out and use fresh salt. I am using Coles cheap iodised salt that I have on hand. Does anyone have a tip on how to keep the salt dry?
I don't have that problem. The things I do are: Not to have it cocked so there's no salt in the chamber and I lay it on its side under my coffee table away from sunlight. Laying it on the side prevents it from entering the hole. I use Aldi's table salt and I don't know if it's different from the Coles table salt. I wouldn't put anything else in there. I hope that helps.
Edit: Maybe try decanting some salt in a jar and throw some silica packets in there and only use that for your gun.
different from the Coles table salt
It's all NaCl I wouldn't worry about that.
If bicarb doesn't work I will try a couple of coffee beans. Rice would be ideal but I worry it might get stuck and wreck the gun.
I was going to suggest trying salt with an anticaking additive but the Coles iodised salts already seem to have it.
Haven’t seen the guns in person… Is the salt reservoir large enough to accommodate a tiny silica packet like the kind found in vitamin bottles? And would it interfere with firing?
You could mix in a small amount of bicarb to try and help keep it dry and free flowing /shrug
Edit: Found this. 3:53 onwards talks about humidity and salt clogs but it doesn’t address your particular problem https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NsFzz5kjFpU
I'm trying bicarb first. The salt 'magazine' is too small for silica gel packet.
Seagoons one is pretty good, maybe a single coffee bean or a few grains of rice
Interest in a games specific catch up? My place doesn't do big groups well, but things that by nature spilt into 3or4...

Ooh, ooh, me!!
Yay!
Pass from me. Not that I don't like a good meet up, but games as such are a bit beyond me.
Poo. Some other time 😺
Indeed. Would welcome a pub meetup and book discussion at some time. I have a sneaking suspicion that we share a taste for speculative fiction. Particularly the more unhinged variety of the genres. What are your thoughts on werewolves? I have a great fondness for werewolves .... Vampires not so much.
I have a thing for not sparkley vampires. Warrington does romance, Lumley does NOT. Were-creatures my library tends more towards mind bonded animals rather than directly turning into.
I have a bit of a problem with mind-bonding animals - it seems to me to be a trope for slavery in it's more modern manifestations rather than lurv. But I do love werewolves that do their own thing in accordance with their own biology. Patricia Briggs does excellent werewolves, as does Tanya Huff. Must try Lumley - who has not previously come up on my radar. Thanks for the tip(s).
Briggs rings a distant bell. Shall look up.
Warning: Lumley gets into tentacle rape territory Very not sexy vampires.
Zero problem. I have read the ancient greeks. They don't hold back on the darker side of human existence. Briggs is a delight - I strongly recommend her website where she discusses the practical side of making silver bullets. Turns out that this task is a LOT more complex than most fiction authors would have you believe. The economics are also atrocious. Vampire/werewolf hunting in 20/21 century is a VERY expensive business.
Economics! I'm sending you a rec for Chris Wooding, and dinner 😺
Many blessings upon your house and all that live therein!
I'm keen!
You know where, we need a when
Well my calendar is free lol
And my birthday is the 6th, but I presume many persons will have family Easter things about then
My arm might be twisted...
... into a new and exciting form of kitten
I'm keen!
Splendid! May the 4th isn't a weekend. No other named dates spring to mind
Lentils are so good.
And my new freezer cube meal prep is paying off. I had some extra tomatoey marsala gravy from a previous curry and so I froze it and some leftover coconut cream from previous meal.
WFH day today so lunch was cube of marsala gravy, small portion of the coconut cream, portion of onion-celery-carrot mix, portion of frozen spinach. All dumped in the instant pot with lentils, a stock cube and water. Served over defrosted rice portions.
So so yum and so easy. Thanks past me!
I lost laundry roulette
AW YEAH IT'S ALL COMIN' UP LEYA
Major errand for the day complete.
I have achieved new shoes
10 drops of rain and now it's sunny again
They let me go.
I know why, but under probation they don't have to give a reason.
Got a few interviews this week so that's good.
Gotta keep moving forward.
