Ok valve, make me a Linux phone lol. Steam deck has been so good for Linux popularity and gaming. We need something similar for phones. And the steam deck remains an open platform. You can install windows on it if you're that sorta monster. And they provide so much control. You can mod it out of the box, no bullshit control crap from valve.

There are already Linux phones. The challenge is to develop enough excitement around a concept that attracts developers and users.
The carriers will follow.
Android and iOS are already running Unix like operating systems (they don't use the Linux kernel though)
Android uses a modifed linux kernel.
Oh man. I'd love for Valve to bring us an Arch-based Linux phone.
Anything dependent on Google (or any large corporate entity) is neither free or open.
I fear not even adb is enough. It used to expose backup/restore functionality which allowed for some neat tricks like transferring/modifying shared preferences. So of course now that's gone. Seems like it's only a matter of time before adb requires a host certificate issued by Google
ADB is meant for developers. It wouldn't be far fetched to think restrictions could be added in Android 20-22 to limit the usefulness.
Besides, developers would be less enthusiastic with ID verification and all. Not to mention it would be difficult for Fdroid to operate and distribute apps.
