I understand the desire to keep the elements of the meal separate for taste and aesthetics, but if you're just cooking for yourself, I'd recommend the one-pot approach. If you had put the peanut butter, jelly, and bread into one pot, cooked and stirred with the spatula, and eaten directly from the pot using the spatula, you would have had a lot less cleanup to do.
