Long story short is : don’t bother.

The added wrap doesn’t add anything worthy taste-wise and is additional unnecessary calories honestly.

Even glazing them didn’t cancel the blandness of the wrap.

Next time I’m back to the usual Kefta skewers that are proven to be absolutely delicious.

I tried a middle-eastern filling which was delicious alone;

Honestly the best part was the accompanying sumac tomato salad

And the homemade flat bread

Though for next time I need to find a version of flat bread more buttery and layer-y if that makes sense.

Chefs all across the Middle East: "We've spent thousands of years figuring out the most delicious ways to cook meat on skewers."

Idiots on Instagram: "Yes, but did you try making it worse?"

And now it is proven :)

Please appreciate my sacrifice…

I would trust an Instagram recipe like I would trust a ChatGPT recipe.

Not at all.

Yeah but ain’t it nice to actually make your instinct fact based?

Appreciate my sacrifice :)

You are doing valuable science and for that we thank you.

Your salad looks so good!

Is it just tomatoes red onions sumac and coriander? Is there anything else lurking in there? Looks beautiful!

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That’s the basis :) Red oignons though and if you want them less oignony put them in cold water 30 mins.

Also add a copious amount of Greek yoghurt and olive oil, salt, pepper and a splash of lemon juice. Then some more olive oil.

Swap the coriander for mint if coriander tastes like dish soap to you :)

Onions can also go right onto skewers!

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

For sure but they would be less pungent and more sweet; I was looking for something acidic and punchy to go with these skewers.

I love onions in all shape - my personal favourite bbq style is simply charred in aluminium foil with some butter and salt.

Seconding this. I want that salad in my face right now.

Wait so the idea is you get a load of burnt bread on your skewer with what you're actually cooking?

I worry for the future of cuisine

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah they advertise the burn bits as flavourful… I feel like I needed to test the thing and make my opinion of it. This is absolutely unrelated to any « cuisine » : this is social media…

I don't, there's loads of great culinary content out there. I wouldn't look for it on Instagram though. And there have always been people that vastly overestimate their skills, the only thing new is the stage they've been given. This is the bored parent sitting at home, trying to invent new food ideas for their kids, but with massive reach. Ignore, and nothing of value will be lost.

"My mom made gummy bears gratin last night. first I feared I'd die, then I hoped."

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is that a huge pile of fresh coriander? 🤐

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yup. You’re part of the weak pool? 😬

I also did a mint version of it since I’m not only one loving coriander…

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Weak pool?

I'm one of those people who can actually taste that weird stuff that coriander has. I guess we have more sensation in our taste buds or something.

I can also taste the extreme bitterness in beer and coffee.

"Supertasters", they call us. Look it up!

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Meh… sometimes less is more I guess :)

More seriously I always do 2 versions bc not everyone in the house likes the taste… though we all absolutely love coffee and beers ;-) That’s kind of a national requirement on the beer side.

I'm glad I don't use Instagram.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

yeah its kinda annoying to saying it like people know what it is. Im still not sure but some sort of little sandwich apparently on a skewer.
