The No Kings movement has announced a nationwide event on 14 June, directly counter-programming Donald Trump’s 80th birthday celebrations and a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bout on the south lawn of the White House.

The centerpiece is a 90-minute concert at New York’s Town Hall featuring entertainer Bette Midler, songwriter Patti Smith, actor Jane Fonda, musician Rufus Wainwright and commentator Joy Reid – streaming free nationwide, while local groups host watch parties across the country. The event is co-presented by the Committee for the First Amendment, a coalition of artists and cultural figures, and frames the US’s 250th anniversary as a moment of democratic reckoning.

Trump's not going to let anything ruin his birthday party with his friends. The crackdown will be brutal and maybe America will finally wake up

The civil Rights movement managed to use that type of crackdown to show the nation the sheer tension of racial discrimination. I will not say it is a good thing that police crackdown on protestors, but the police can be useful. Just like they were in Birmingham in 1964 when images of police beating and arresting women and children circulated the national media. Indeed, the same sort of thing happened with Alex Pretti and Renee Good during the Minneapolis ICE protests.

They should quit this bullshit protest and focus on planning frequent black outs and focus on protesting individual companies. Raise money for the community. Provide help for those less fortunate. Food drives. Clinics. Information booths on candidates. Register to vote.

Yes because all the protest have really put a dent in the regime. We need more action.

What protesting on one day every three months, doesn't scare them? When did Americans get so weak and placid.

What actions have you performed

This is regarding a group that has resources and name recognition. I'm not a group or movement. I will happily join one that actually does something instead of making a coechella for old people who usually align with neo liberals than leftist.

Every time I reply no one believes me. Have multiple accounts. I'm my city I started the 5051 branch. Didn't like the no leaders ideology. Did grass roots marketing and got 80 people to protest in a red city.

Moved to Indivisible as the marketing coordinator. Volunteer work. Was the photographer, marketing manager and graphics designer. Helped organize 4,000 people in the June 2025 protest. Also helped local groups get recognized with my photography and posts. Organized book drives and food drives for the community.

Got doxxed and harassed a few times by local maga idiots. Wife made me quit for a bit. Here I am.

You?

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 1 points 2 days ago

I'm confused. It sounds like you just organized protests? Why are you asking organizations to do more than what you did?

[–] TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Awesome man. So what makes you think protestors aren't also doing that

[–] MrSelfDestruct@piefed.zip 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My point is from my experience, the only planning is planning for the next protest. I hope people are thinking more about what they can do that might get better results.

[–] TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Ok... Again what makes you think they are not, other than your own smug sense of superiority?

[–] MrSelfDestruct@piefed.zip 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Haven't seen any wide movements from no kings, 50501 or Indivisible. Just protests. Why would you think I'm smug if I wish the organizers would focus and use resources on other things? Building communities is a good thing. Protests without any real actions is pointless.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone -2 points 2 days ago

They're not gonna do that because most of these events are for politicians campaigning for office, their goal is not and has never been meaningful change. They mostly just call for donations
