Thank you for the kind words. I’m new to Lemmy and if I want to see a busy photography community feed I am going to have to contribute!

Nice shot!

Can you tell me a bit more about it?

Obvious first question is what camera/lens you used for this? Then also what time of day (i.e. is it as dark as it looks or is this intentional underexposure to get the vibe) was this and which Fujifilm did you use? Standard 400 ISO perhaps or something more niche?

(Mostly coming from a place of my night shots on film can be a bit hit and miss, so always interested in how others go about it)

This is a digital shot on Fujifilm X-H2 with the xf33 mm f1.4 and a black mist filter. Definitely underexposed to get the neon light vibe. If I recall this was in Kyoto after 10pm.

I did a lot of photo walks in Kyoto so I’m not sure exactly where this one was. Thanks for the interest in the shot!

Ah I misunderstood your initial comment!

Thanks for the detail! Do you get a lot of use out of the black mist filter? I've been considering grabbing one for a couple of my lenses

I feel like I get a lot of use out of it. The diffusion meshes well with the Fujifilm presets.

This is really good. Love how the natural lines of the composition draw the eye to the people in the bottom right. Colors are great too, and the illuminated signs really pop. Great shot.

Might want to cross post to !thenightfeeling@lemmy.world

Thank you for the praise and for the recommendation. I hadn’t heard of that community yet. I’ll see if I can figure out how to cross post.

This is a fantastic shot, and I love the gloomy yet vibrant narrative it puts forth!

Thank you! I was happy with how it turned out. I don’t do a ton of night photography so I’m not the most experienced at it.

Yep. I don't use them, but my banks do usually provide a withdrawl or two from them without extra fees per month and one of my banks at least lets me deposit cash through their ATMs.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah I used their ATM to withdraw money while on vacation. Almost all 7-Eleven have an ATM so that's convenient.

[–] HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth 2 points 3 weeks ago

And with Japan having a largely cash-driven economy, as opposed to card-driven, the ATM's made it easy to pull Yen directly from a debit card, including the conversion fee.

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 2 points 3 weeks ago

It used to be Japan Post (which had hours even for external ATMs) and 7-11 were the only places to take out money with a foreign debit card. I think it's better now, but I'm not sure (I've been living in Japan for over a decade so not usually something I need to consider).

this gives me that 'I just stepped into a parallel dimension' vibe

I always knew banks dealt with imaginary numbers!
